I think posing in pictures with guns is stupid. But, people have the right to do it. People are trying to look cool and tough. Like I said above though it comes off as overcompensatory. Guns are not glamorous. They are not toys. And they shouldn't be treated as such.

I'm sure you felt safer. But you were very safe even without the firearm. Mountain lion attacks are an extremely rare event. Much more likely to be hit by a falling tree, or lightning, or fall down a hill, or have a heart attack, or get lost in the woods, or get a snakebite, or be killed by another human shooting at what he thought was game, or ...

Mountain Lion attacks are rare events. And what makes them worse is people overreact if they see one and cause the cat to attack. Alot of times mountain lions come at you it's because they are protecting their young. It's good to know your surroundings where you are hiking, what is there, and how to deal with it.

Though if one does attack you and there is no recourse, is gun handy. Yes.

Exactly. Do I want to shoot one? No.

Do I want to raise my hands and try to reason with one as my only recourse if it does attack? Hell no.

bear spray works pretty well and a loud air horn is another one that works....you'll freak a big cat right out with an air horn. I've encountered bear and big cats in the woods but knew enough to steer clear of their territory and get downwind of them quickly.

A shotgun is even better at protecting your family.

No need for crazy assault rifles to protect the family.

A shotgun I can see

We agree though, no need for an assault rifle to protect the family.

Right.

If you notice it in time (hence my know and keep privy of your surroundings) you can back off and get away without further incident.

But, if you get too close it will attack you. So yeah a gun is handy in that situation.

Spoken like someone who doesn't hunt. Easy for you to say you don't need something out there when you aren't out there. They can and do attack hunters. As well as other animals that could attack hunters.

Having a rifle as your only weapon out there is idiotic.

Your assumption is incorrect. I am out there. I spend a LOT of time in the forest. Unarmed. I've never yet been attacked by an animal.

Just because you intend to kill the animals doesn't mean they intend to kill you.

Speaking of cougar attacks has anyone seen Madonna lately?

But they could. And have attacked people. And i'm not reasoning with them without protection. Sorry.

It's sad when old people try to be sex symbols when they qualify for social security.....she looks like she's been patched together with dry wall mud and is trying to be a drunk 19 year old Lindsay Lohan slobbering on her pillow

Because it’s so stupid that someone posts “we should keep guns out of kids hands” and the first reaction by someone is no wait what about hunting. No one cares if you hunt. That’s not what he was fucking talking about.
We have hunting in England. I grew up in rural England surrounded by farms and we found shotgun shells littered all over the place. YOU DON'T HUNT WITH A FUCKING AR-15. Well, you don't hunt animals with an AR-15.

Not here. We need as many bullets as possible. Bad aim. Also way more manly to have an AR.

Sorry (not really but) These parents should be hung. In front of their kid. Actually no. Hang the kid in front if mommy and daddy. Let them watch and then wait about a week so they can feel it. Then hang the mom in front of dad. Then do dad the next week. That’s my punishment. Cue “god you’re so angry at these people what’s your problem they only are responsible for killing four kids”. Can’t wait!

Fun imagination you have. There was probably some shit like that scrawled in that kids notebook.

From the article below the maps:

Gun Violence by State
Based on the number of gun deaths per capita in 2019 alone, states with the most gun violence are:

  1. Alaska - 24.4
  2. Mississippi - 24.2
  3. Wyoming - 22.3
  4. New Mexico 22.3
  5. Alabama - 22.2
  6. Louisiana - 22.1
  7. Missouri - 20.6
  8. South Carolina - 19.9
  9. Arkansas - 19.3
  10. Montana - 19.3
These states tends to have high gun ownership rates. Montana has the highest with 66.3%, followed by Wyoming with 66.2%, and Alaska with 64.5%.

Here are the 10 states with the highest rates of gun ownership:

  1. Montana (66.30%)
  2. Wyoming (66.20%)
  3. Alaska (64.50%)
  4. Idaho (60.10%)
  5. West Virginia (58.50%)
  6. Arkansas (57.20%)
  7. Mississippi (55.80%)
  8. Alabama (55.50%)
  9. South Dakota (55.30%)
  10. North Dakota (55.10%)

Those statistics are skewed by including suicide deaths. They’ve been debunked many times in these type of arguments. It’s disingenuous to conflate harming ones self with harming other people. It’s fairly common knowledge that gun violence is disproportionately worse in urban areas than other places. And yes, liberal-run areas specifically, if you really want to go that route.

Quoting the statistics he posted

According to that map, if you want to go by that 8 out of the top 10 states in gun violence are conservative red states.

Is everyone aware of the ignore button? It’s very easy to use. If my posts are bothering you please use it.

No thanks. I don't ignore anyone. I don't run away from people with other opinions than mine and hide.
You don't mute annoying infomercials or leave a bar when some obnoxious asshole is screaming at the moon? You must be an anthropologist....

And, like I said, those statistics include suicide deaths so they do not accurately give a true representation of gun violence. If you look up gun *murders* the map changes very much.

That's different. In person If someone is being aggressive or a total lame-o, i don't mind leaving.

If i'm reading someones thoughts on a forum, i'm not gonna run away. That's the dumbest thing you could do. Reading everyone agreeing with every thought you have would be boring. And it would lead to confirmation bias. Which doesn't surprise me coming from the people telling others to ignore.
