Anyone hear what the espn announcer said about frye early in the 2nd qtr? Worst 24 seconds an nba player has prob ever had. For blazer fans that sums up fryes miserable season. Serioulsy when outlaw comes back...i hope frye is in a f'in suit every night. HES AWFUL!

He had a tough game. He's had some good ones for us. Tonight's game wasn't representative.

good ones? I must have missed them lol. You mean in garbage time vs the heat? dude, its almost not watchable when frye is on the court.

Thanks for your opinion. Try milk instead of piss in your Corn Flakes some morning.

There was one game where Frye was taking the ball to the rim and I was actually impressed. I would bench him if he can't play like that, but some people like soft ass "power" forwards.

I almost think it is because people remember Karl Malone hitting outside shots all the time, but Malone was an entirely different player than what we have.

Wow, the MIXER is fired up. Three threads in a row. A record? One loss and the ceiling is crashing. Look, I'm not a fan of Frye's game. I like rugged back up PF in the Paul Milsap, Jason Maxiel mode. But Frye is a jump shooter and you live and die with jump shooters.

good let frye die on another team. im sick of watching his missed 18 foot jump shots and terrible rebounding.

Can you try to keep all your post-game thoughts to one thread from now on? You're upset, which is your registered trademark. But there's a bit too much MIXUM spilled across this forum at the moment. Posting all you want is cool, but there's no need to create so many essentially redundant threads. Frye being the worst player ever to touch a basketball could have been another point in your list of things that drove you crazy about tonight's game.

i will keep in mind for future posts. sorry!

just pissed off at the dead weight on our team

It still goes back to last season that we need a banger down low at the backup PF spot, or give the backup PF minutes completely to Travis when Martell comes back. Channing really has no inside game at all... and it's a little frustrating to watch.

Channing was great in the game where he was raining threes and got like 17 points (heat game?) but he was not good tonight. I can see Outlaw playing more four and Webster getting Frye's minutes at least.

If we had Millsap as a backup...I love that guy.

People who don't make a name for themselves by being a gimmick and understand that 24 seconds isn't representative of what a player can actually do.

Your perspective is so warped it cracks me up. Only in your own world will a team go 82-0.

Frye really regressed this season (and he wasn't all that amazing to start with). Not only is his jumper not falling, he's been committing some truly stupid fouls on defense lately.

I'd really like to see Ike or Shavlik get his minutes to see if either of them can at least bring solid defense when on the floor.

I'd be very suprized if we resign him. Joel Freeland will be our backup 4/5 in '09. Gotta love Pritch and his drafting.

oops, I see Mixum has already agreed to stop the multi-threads so my original post was unnecessary. Thanks Mixum!

zagsfan....

hate to tell ya, but frye is a perfect fit for a team like the thunder. you know a team that will be rebuilding for 5-6 years. the knicks (that hurts) couldn't send him out fast enough...THE KNICKS! Think about that for a second. HE IS TERRIBLE!!!!!!!! You know, i know, and every NBA team knows it.

Ike bring solid defense???? You must be kidding. He's Zach Light. All offense, no defense and an even bigger black hole. Seriously, have you actually watched him play? He makes Zach look like a good defender. Just because he has big broad shoulders, don't assume he's a banger.

He has the lowest rebound rate of any non-guard on the team AND the worst defensive rating on the entire active roster. Raef, with one arm in a sling, would give us better defense and more rebounding than Ike.

Ike's a better offensive player (at least in garbage time) than Frye, but if you want defense and rebounding from your back-up power forward, Ike is actually a step backwards.

What exactly has Freeland done to justify even being on the team, let alone the backup 4/5 next season?

Frye was atrocious last night. He has some valuable skills, but he's got to have his head in the game. He just looked lost out there last night.

Humm... I guess your not aware of what how effective he has been early this season for Gran Canaria.

Here's a little excerpt from draftexpress on his recent play.

From an NBA perspective, though, the most interesting player on this team is definitely Joel Freeland. The British big man and former Portland Trailblazers first round pick in 2006 (30th overall) is having a breakout season thus far, averaging an outstanding 12 points, 5 rebounds in just 18 minutes of action, shooting 67% from the field and throwing in a block per game for good measure.

From a per-minute standpoint, there is not a more productive player in the ACB at the moment. Per-40 minutes Freeland is averaging 28 points, 12 rebounds and 2.5 blocks, after only playing 9 minutes per game in the ACB last season.

At 6-11 and approximately 250 pounds, Freeland is quite an interesting player from a physical standpoint, as his frame appears to have filled out nicely and he’s retained pretty much all the athleticism that made him a prospect to begin with. Freeland runs the floor well, is very explosive off his feet, and possesses nice fluidity and agility for a player this size.

Inside the paint Freeland can make a big impact, as he has the size, bulk and explosiveness to finish everything around the rim with a powerful dunk, and is quick and active enough to go out of his area and make a living on the offensive glass as well. He is an excellent finisher and is beginning to improve his skill-level to a certain extent as well, showing nice hands and decent touch when forced to finish with a bit of finesse.

Freeland is still fairly limited when asked to create offense for himself, either with his back to the basket or facing up, as he lacks significant offensive polish and is still clearly learning the fundamentals of the game. Defensively he is a solid shot-blocking threat, but is still a little bit inexperienced in his knowledge of the game, making him somewhat foul prone at times.

At just 21 years old, and only playing basketball for a few years now, Freeland obviously still has a great deal of upside left to tap into. He is probably still a few years away from being able to contribute to an NBA team in a meaningful way, but the sparks he’s showing at times are quite promising. The Trailblazers are probably the last team in the NBA who need another young big man prospect, but they have the advantage of continuing to let him develop in Spain for free, and reaping the benefits later.

The only problem is that at some point, the highly unattractive slot allotted to the last pick of the first round according to the rookie scale may be outweighed by far better offers from Europe, especially considering Freeland’s British passport, which makes him a Bosman A player. Another season in Europe may make things difficult on Portland later, even if Freeland clearly isn’t ready right now for the NBA.

Regardless of what happens, you have to tip your hat to Kevin Pritchard and his outstanding staff for continuing to stockpile such promising prospects.

Nothing. But, with the way Frye is struggling to contribute, and is up for a new contract, I could see a couple of things happening:

1) KP brings in a new player to upgrade our backup PF situation OR

the team decides to keep Outlaw for at least another year, but shifts him back to backup PF for most of his minutes.

2) KP signes Freeland, who would be on a very cheap rookie deal, in the hope he becomes a 3rd string backup big man - not the primary backup.

Ah, per 40..

Well, per 40, Channing is averaging 15 points, 7 boards and almost a block a game.

I'm not sure that's a really good argument made for Freeland.

I'm not sure that you made a good argument for Frye either. Why are you looking at per 40? Freeland is averaging 12 point 5 boards and 1 block in 18 mins. Per 40 stats are useless.

because it brought up how productive Freeland was (per 40). I'm saying that 12 points and 5 boards and 1 block ain't exactly a sure fire backup PF/C in the making.

It seems to be a common thing with Blazer fans (and sports fans in general), in that we elevate our guys to incredibly high platforms. This is no different.

Did you also see where it said Freeland can't create his own shot?

Would you be asking him too? Neither can Anderson Varejao (compareable to Freeland) or many other backup PF in the league.
