FU Comcrap! Blazers might stream games? - via Dwitght Jaynes

My fear is that Comcast will sue the Blazers and the NBA, claiming that they were given exclusive rights through their contract to broadcast Blazer games. I'm sure their lawyers will define "broadcasting" as streaming over the internet as well.

Either that, or this will be the nudge that forces Comcast back to the bargaining table with the Dishes.

This contract was only signed a couple of years ago. The internets were a well-known phenomena by that time. I'd be astonished if streaming wasn't addressed in the contract explicitly.

I am thinking the same thing.

The Blazers season ticket rep didn't know anything about this. She checked with someone with communications and came up with never heard of this.

Hello Mike,

Thanks for your inquiry. More importantly thank you for supporting the Trail Blazers and for going above and beyond to voice your concern regarding your inability to get access to the cable games. We’ve been working hard on this all summer. Comcast continues to tell us that their conversations with dish and direct indicate that a deal may happen soon. However, in the event that we are all left with more of the same, and they don’t get a deal done, we’re now exploring other ways to distribute the games to markets not served by the satellites. We will shortly be making some public statements regarding our efforts. Thank you again for your inquiry.

My best,

Sarah

Does anyone know how to get around the local blackout from League Pass Broadband? If I have someone out of state sign up for me, will it work? Or do they track you by your IP address? I have Comcast, so it's not like the blackout is going to stop me from watching the Blazers. I would sign up for LP Broadband simply for the archived games, but only if the Blazer games are included.

Nope. My pass worked out of state, but when I came to visit family in the Portland area the Blazer games were blacked out. Basically, I had more access to the Blazers when I was out of state, how backwards is that? FYI, they remain blacked out when they're archived.

Sounds like, through the lawyer-speak, the Blazer brass are none-too-pleased with Comcast at the moment.

That sure sounds like streaming to me. Unless they are going to burn dvds of the game and mail them to people.

Man, I'm really hoping they get it resolved. I don't want CSN to go away. We have more blazers coverage now than ever before. I remember when we could only watch what was offered by KGW, and sometimes they were tape delayed (WHICH SUCKED).

This is 100% correct. Even though I don't have Comcast, I've seen CSNW at sports bars and friend's houses. The production is clean and professional, they show old Blazer games, Duck games, and sometimes-cool Oregon local programming and features that would never see the light of day on "Fox Sports Seattle". I would be thrilled to have CSNW in HD on my DirecTV.

That being said, if forced to use streams to watch Blazer games, I will do so. But it will make my 50 inch plasma sad.

Comcast says a deal may be done soon?? Wow, never heard that before. Sheesh.

I got Comcast for a year for $29.99, but I would love for a deal to get done so I could drop them next year. Even streaming would be good enough.

I just bundled FiOS TV to my existing Internet/phone bundle, it is free for the first 6 months and $20/month for the next 6 with a 1 year contract which works for me for the year. I kept my DirecTV though and just had this installed on 1 TV in the house.

No HD, though, right? That's where FIOS bites you in the wallet with the receivers, DVRs, and extras.

ESPNU on Dish Network is moving from 148 to 141, which used to be an ESPN alternate.

Eh? Eh?

Just a heads-up: If anyone (who doesn't have CSNNW) would like to view the games, once the season starts, I'll be broadcasting them on my SlingBox. Obviously, only one person can watch it at a time, but it's better than nothing! Send me a PM if you're interested--I just figure it's the least I could do to help some fellow Blazer brethren!

That's where TiVo and a Cable Card from Verizon come in so I dont have to mess with their DVR, it's only for the away games for me anyways since I'm now a season ticket holder and this is the first year they've broadcast road games in HD so I never had it before. Not to mention I was watching games on a slingbox before.

If streaming directly from the Blazers will be an option, in my experience, the PS3 works best for that. Especially if you're connected to your TV via HDMI cable. Connecting my laptop to my TV by either S-video or VGA cable doesn't even come close to the direct connection of the PS3. So if you don't have one and you have the $, I would highly recommend it. Plus it's the best Blu-ray player out there.

Thanks for that idea! I have a PS3 so I'll have to try that next time I'm streaming anything.

I have both a PS3 with an HDMI cable and an HDTV. How do I use it to stream Blazer games? I'm a bit confused.

So long as your PS3 is connected to the internet, just use the PS3's included web browser in the main menu. It can take a while to type in an address one character at a time, but the picture quality is worth it. Plus it has a zoom option you can use without degrading the quality. I won't stream with anything else.

Once you get it figured out, maybe just stream something quickly on Hulu. I streamed Joss Whedon's "Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog" with Neil Patrick Harris a few weeks ago (hilarious by the way) and the video quality was equal to that of the DVD.

This Sunday I'll miss my first Cowboys game in years since I drop NFL ticket so I could get comcast. I'm hoping I'll be able to find a streaming of it online. It'll give me a chance to test this out. I wish I had a keyboard that work with my PS3.

does the PS3 just have a USB port for a keyboard? PS sorry my Broncos stole the game last week ;) joke

So where's this big announcement on streaming games? Fool me once.... I'll believe anything when I see it, otherwise it's just a bunch of talk, just like every other rumor and tease about CSNW and the Sat providers getting close to a deal. Hell, DirecTV shitcanned Versus, which is owned and run by Comcast, so I think the likelihood of those two companies bargaining in good faith is about as good as me crapping out a perfect copy of the Mona Lisa into the toilet.

It has a number of usb connections. I believe any old usb keyboard/mouse will work too. I haven't tried it myself however.

I had broadband league pass last year and my only complaint was games that were on nbatv, espn and tnt weren't on league pass broadband. I don't get nbatv and had to find crappy streams for about 11 games that were on nbatv.

the cost was $80 if you sign up early, $100 after two weeks into the season and $50 after the all-star break.

I would gladly pay $150 to watch all the blazers games in 720p or $80 in 480p via the internet

Cool.. thanks again. Stinkin Technological Genius!

I did some researdh and from what I read any usb keyboard/mouse should work even wireless ones. I have extension USB cable so I'll be able to reach my PS3 no problem and hopefully it'll recognize my wireless mouse.

I must have missed the joke. The Cowboys have been generous this year resulting in two losses. The only good is that each still came down to the final play and each were against teams that are now 4-0.

Your next four games are pretty tough so in 4 weeks we'll find out if they are real or not. We have a hopefully easy game at KC. If we lose that one I will start to really worry!! And I hate games like this because Dallas has a habit of playing down to their competition and not getting up for the game.

Oh I was just being an ass.. I dont feel at all that Denver is that good. Better than I originally thought.. but I think they finish at 8-8.
