A box of .22 rounds for $150?! Give me a fucking break!

I just bought $1000 worth of .40, .38 and 12 gauge rounds for good measure!

I hate you Obama!

holy shit, $1000 worth of bullets? damn.

1. let everyone know how much ammo you bought
2. tell the president you hate him
3. profit?

Here's hoping you didn't just bring yourself onto Homeland Security's radar.

Go Blazers

$1000 in ammo isn't very much right now. A few months back $1000 in ammo was a shot ton.

Damn the gov't, they tax the hell out of alcohol, tabacco and firearms . . . they take all the fun out of living.

Free market at work, demand exceeds supply.

It really isn't. 50 rounds are $49 each. Then I have home protection rounds for both my hk .40 and .357 (.38 rounds). The thing that killed me is the local gun shops aren't selling more than a box at a time. I was able to get 10 boxes of each (500 rds each).

The 12 gauge shells are still pretty cheap. Got 5 boxes of those.

What is tax and what is just the price the companies charge?

Sounds like it's more of an ammo control problem than gun control.

Last time I was at Gander Mountain the shelves were bare.

Just looked it up, federal tax on ammunition is only 11%

So blaming it on Obama or gun control seems disingenuous.

People are stocking up in advance of the Executive Orders he's promised.

Blame on both is well placed.

Blame it on paranoia, fear of that bastard Obama. Blame should be on those right wing echo chambers that spread the fear and paranoia. I see prognostication of 500% tax on ammo, that's the crazy bull that's causing the jump.

It's a false demand. The ammo companies are creating a shortage so they can jack up the prices.

Not true, at least with one manufacturing company I know. They can't keep up. They are behind 7 months now compared to orders placed. So if a retail outlet asks for 100 cases now they are getting them in 7 months. Luckily those retails outlets placed orders 7 months ago that they will get any day now.

The government is buying up all of the ammo, and manufacturers are running out.

1.6 billion rounds over the last six months. Napolitano was asked about it a few weeks ago in hearings, and said it was for a 'discounted' rate.

There have been a multitude of headlines about massive government purchases of ammunition, so that manufacturers have been unable to keep up with the admittedly rising demand from consumers alarmed that the Obama administration will succeed with its agenda of banning many kinds of firearms.

Napolitano was being asked by Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-S.C., about the reports of the purchases, and she explained her department dismissed the concerns when they arose, not feeling it was worth a response.

She said the widely reported purchase of 1.6 billion rounds – enough for many years of a war at the rate ammunition is used by the U.S. military these days – was right. At least she thought so.

“This was a five-year strategic sourcing contract for up to one-point-whatever billion rounds,” she confirmed.

Yeah, because of course the DHS needs machine guns, armored vehicles, and predator drones, right?

Something seriously stinks with our government right now.

I find it hard to believe that ammo manufacturers wouldn't account for the "5 year contract for 1.whatever billion" rounds in their business forecasts. When was this contract signed, with whom was it signed, and why are there ammo shortages now? Seems rather convenient in light of the current gun-grabbing by the Dems and many GOPs.

Why is a 500% tax on ammo even believable?

When they banned assault rifles back in the 1990s, there was a huge demand for those rifles at the stores before the ban was enacted.

Democrats get in trouble for just talking about wanting to ban guns. They cause price rises for just thinking about it! Why now that we are drilling more than ever for oil, the thought of that must have brought the price of oil to record lows too, right Sarah Palin?!

Why aren't the shoulder-mounted rocket-launcher manufacturers arguing that the second amendment covers them? After all, it says militia, and what good's a militia without one of those these days?

Well for one is that the rocket launcher companies have direct contracts with the defense industry. It's no different than when it was hard to get hummers 20 years ago.

Only until the us government gives authorization to the manufacturers can they sell them.

Why isn't the US Government giving us Authorization??! I want an Oompa Loompa NOW daddy!

This thread sounds like a Chris Rock set.

Chris Rock said:
“You don’t need no gun control, you know what you need? We need some bullet control. Men, we need to control the bullets, that’s right. I think all bullets should cost five thousand dollars… five thousand dollars per bullet… You know why? Cause if a bullet cost five thousand dollars there would be no more innocent bystanders.
Yeah! Every time somebody get shot we’d say, ‘Damn, he must have done something ... Shit, he’s got fifty thousand dollars worth of bullets in his ass.’
And people would think before they killed somebody if a bullet cost five thousand dollars. ‘Man I would blow your fucking head off…if I could afford it.’ ‘I’m gonna get me another job, I’m going to start saving some money, and you’re a dead man. You’d better hope I can’t get no bullets on layaway.’
So even if you get shot by a stray bullet, you wouldn't have to go to no doctor to get it taken out. Whoever shot you would take their bullet back, like "I believe you got my property.”
