Game #1 observations

To be fair, you just exasperated what you hate by adding to it... so in reality, you're also the cause of the issue.

FAMS.
You let this type of thing continue. That should be merged with the game thread as should mine. That type of thing doesn’t need to clog up the main page. His was just as foolish as mine. Earn your check kid.

I mean, since I don't make any money off of this, I guess I should keep doing what I'm doing? ;)

I predict Jake's time in the starting lineup will be brief indeed.

I agree.

Only slightly less brief will be his time in the rotation.

I disagree. Jake is not Harkless, he is not useful being a Jake of all trades (har har) - but if he is featured somewhat as a scorer - he becomes very useful. He will be fine in the 2nd unit playing the 4 next to Zach.

I understand what you are saying and there is no doubt there are times where in hind sight he should have passed. But once CJ gets in the painted area I like the odds better if he shoots it. The alternative has several endings...an assist, turnover, missed shot by another player, and even no shot at all. I will take the 40% chance he makes it or draws a foul. Plus if he does miss the shot theoretically there should be 2 Blazers who could be in good position for the put back. They should be crashing the boards.
Again I am not saying he should never pass in those situations but if he is in the lane, he is better than most. Last night was not a good example though as his shot got blocked a few times.

This is the element of AI's game that most people don't fully grasp. If you put enough pressure on the defense, good things happen more often than not, even if the shot selection isn't great.

Wait a sec. Are we no longer posting in the game thread. Is talk of the game moving here?
On reddit, RealGM etc you have a Game Thread and after the Game a Post Game Thread. I like it

Dame missed a wide open Stauskas a few times as well, kinda pissed me off. No need for Dame to take 21 shots.
Same with CJ. He get's a screen from collins and instead to Pass him and doing some PnP he goes to the Basket for 1vs3 . CJ will Never change

Curry only had 15 minutes. I can only assume that that was because Stauskas was out of his mind (and Turner was also playing great). But nonetheless, Curry continues the preseason trend of being our best +/- guy - +18 in his few minutes.

Surprisingly great:
Stauskas, Collins, Turner, Meyers (4 assists, +8 in 8 mins)
Props also to Harkless, who was nicely active and hit a three and showed very little rust

Surprisingly NOT:
The starters, but especially Nurk (-17 in 17 mins) although his stats looked nice, especially for the few minutes. Dame looked very sloppy - lots of careless turnovers.
+/- is a Bad stat to argue imo

I normally hate ET, but he did a good job running the 2nd unit. 2nd units ball movement was so much better than the 1st unit's.

Ok fuck TNT... Not only for the Laker cock gobbling but for the simple fact that they SCREW my DVR by having like 8-10 mins of the previous broadcast. I didn't get to see anything after SteakSauce (one word) hit the three out of that corner sequence with Dame and Moe.

Does anyone else have PSVue? Can I fix this?
DVR the show after...

The game was the party. This is the after party. Break out your dance moves white boi!

He should definitely shoot when he has an opening, which is the majority of the time. The issue is when he doesn't he's too slow to find a second option. It's simply a waste to completely collapse the D drawing three defenders and not pass the ball quick enough or dribble into a turnover when a quick pass could result in ball movement to open shooters for three. If CJ can get his teammates going in addition to scoring at will he'll be unstoppable, a la Roy.

True. But CJ is good, is efficient, and is clutch. I think the expectation is that he looks first to break down is man and score. That's his role. And if he can do what he did last night and get to the line 6 times, that's better than a Zach jumper or shaky post move, no?

Asking Turner to be the primary ball handler when he's on the court really freed him up last night. It plays to his strengths. And you can see the confidence on his heads up play and on defense.

Meyers made some great passew ladt night.

Meyers, while not perfect, actually did look like a basketball player in game 1. I'm not expecting some miracle for him. But, if he can play some backup minutes and not hurt the team, then that is just gravy on the biscuits of the season.

Aminu was purposely left open time after time and his only make came when he finally attacked the basket for a poster dunk on McGee. He is going to have to hit some of those shots or at some point, move the ball to someone who can.

So glad someone else sees this. Teams simply do not have to guard him and he creates huge problems on the offensive end. They wait for the ball to end up in Aminu's hands and then it's 4 on 5. Just cruise the lanes and wait for the trainwreck. Happens time and time again.

When Aminu is hot we’re basically unstoppable though, to be fair.

Also credit where its due, Meyers played legitimately well.

Aminu did shoot a career best 36.9% from 3 last season, that's better than Dames 36.1%, if he's close to that this yr that's solid

He shot it well last year but it's in roller coaster like production. Towards the end of the season last year he had a 4-game stretch where he was 15-27 (.556). That was followed up by a 12 game stretch to end the season shooting 13-51 (.254). Overall that comes out to a .359% but it is EXTREMELY over inflated by a hot 4-game run. For 12 of those 16 games, he was brutal and that is what happens on many nights.

He needs better consistency.

There are Players in the NBA who shoots over 40% from 3 , and they aren't that much wide open like Aminu, considering that Aminu is allways wide open on his 3s, his 3point% isn't Bad but definetly not very good. He's streaky. We have to live with that he sometimes shots 5 of 7 from 3 or so and sometimes 0/7

Agreed. Given that he is WIDE FREAKING OPEN on most of his '3's, his percentage SHOULD be higher. It's jut like practice in the gym because no one is near him. It is very rare that he shoots an even mildly contested shot and those are often wildly inaccurate.
