They are pretty much guaranteed. You'd have to have a clear-cut case as the team to fire someone without pay. If a coach resigns, he doesn't get the money and can't coach anyone else during the time of the contract period. That's why coaches almost never resign.

I agree with you, but no one knows what happened last year.
Did he try to help them get better?
If he did, they clearly didn't listen.
