If an uncontested layup is 2pts, your opponent would have to shoot above 66% from 3 for it to be a better shot. I don't think a team has ever shot 66% on wide open 3's for a season.

There are plenty of players that can chuck up 50% TS% at 21% usage. And they will probably give you more defense and rebounding as well. Playing Melo is self sabotage.
