Not too long ago there was a Zach Lowe podcast with some guest, i forget who it was, but they were talking about the Bucks defense compared to other teams like the Lebron Heat team and the Blazers.
Basically, it's 2 different approaches: Stotts is playing the analytics numbers games, he's giving up midrange shots, low % shots, players don't fight through screens etc.
Kidd is not willing to give anything up. His players are instructed to fight screens when they need to and giving up a wide open midrange shot is just as bad as giving up a three point shot or a short range shot.
It sucks that we lost, but it's an interesting basketball experiment. Vogel's Pacers fell apart and it was partially because they a had defensive approach which was similar to Stotts'.
