Who's the best overall defender on this year's Blazers squad?

I'm not ready to say a guy with .146 win/share and 0.1 VORP has played EXTREMELY well, though I will not try to bash Nas, as he has improved.
Seriously? You brought up a communalative stat (VORP) that he needs to play more minutes to improve? As well as a .146 winshare/48 as if that's not good?

No. He's overpaid. He's extremely inconsistent (which is to be expected after his injury but that doesn't change the fact that he's inconsistent). He's not a part of the future of the team. I would rather give the minutes to Nas, who has shown he can contribute as well as play defense.
I feel like Neil might've promised him a pay raise a year after in order to get him to sign that $6M contract back in 2019. Worth it, IMO.

This year, it doesn't matter if Hood is making $5M or $10M. He's basically an expiring.

If Little is a better option than Hood, then Olshey really made a dumb move by giving Hood a raise.
Neither can stay healthy. At this point that spot in the rotation is pretty much up for grabs by whomever can stay on the court.

Another great win! I love how teams come back and give us their all and we fend it off and make that last push. We used to just lay down or not adjust!

Things seem to really be gelling with this team now. Much more fun style to watch too.

Kind of weird this Little vs Hood comparison. Neither one of them have been healthy this year for more than a few games. The idea with Hood at the beginning was to have him as a rotation guy to play SG/SF depending on who he was with. CJ goes down and they move him to SG and he gets hurt. Nas out for Covid/Concussion/Knee + whatever else he has hurt.

Seriously. If either one of them could stay healthy for any length of time they might see some solid minutes and get set in the rotation. Eventually CJ and Nurk are coming back. This will push people down the minutes ladder. One of Hood or Little will be on the bench. My bet is it will be Little that sits and Hood will play rotational minutes IF HE STAYS HEALTHY. Big If there.
Then you have Collins. Also how many have also asked Olshey to "Sign another backup Big/PF"? Some of the names being thrown out there will cost players that they have some minutes.

I think it's safe to say some people have a greater variance in their games than others. That would make them more inconsistent than an average player, wouldn't it?

But is there enough difference in variance between players to be detectable by casually watching games? More likely a 40% guy’s variance feels a lot better than a 30% guy’s variance and the latter gets dubbed inconsistent.

I could test it given two players, one notably inconsistent and one consistent. I’m not sure what statistic would best measure consistency. Variance. But variance in what? FG% game to game would be nice but the player who shoots more would tend to have lower variance in FG%. So I’m not sure how to measure it..

Also can we talk about Steven Adams ?

He rolls his ankle bad and just get straight up and walks to the locker room. Dude is a TOUGH mf.

Yeah, he is big, sets a good screen, and is a decent rebounder. He would be a good backup center for us.
Blazer fans overrated this guy so much a few years ago. His skills are very limited.

I really players would be more effective on williamson if they guard him closer where he can't get down hill. Seem when he get a lot space he becomes unstoppable when he goes to the basket.

Pay attention to how much pressure these guys feel about guarding Dame. JJ sounded exasperated about how Dame is just manipulating defenses. This is the definition of MVP. Stan: "90% of guarding them is controlling Dame. 10% everyone else."
