Other than Philadelphia, the Blazers haven't beaten a legitimate playoff team since beating the Los Angeles Lakers all the way back on December 28th, 2020. They're highest quality win is probably beating the 8th place Mavericks twice, who recently blew the Blazers out by 40. This is why I don't buy into the narrative that the Blazers have "overachieved", and don't think their record is impressive.

I agree this is troublesome... and of course, totally expected.

Curious. After Nurk returns, what record down the stretch vs playoff teams would give you confidence we could win a playoff series?

Stotts: "After the All-Star Break, we need to be a top 15 defense"

Covington: "After the All-Star Break, we need to be a top 10 defense"

Defensive rating post all-star break:
27th Twolves 117.1
28th Celtics 117.3
29th Wizards 117.4
30th Blazers 121.6

Unacceptable.

It's not a specific record, I'm looking for specific things with how we play.

Well you brought up our record against playoff teams as if the record was some sort of indicator, no? If it's only about playing your preferred style, then the record part of your post was irrelevant I guess. We got to the WCF with this style.

I do think our record against Western Conference playoff teams is an indicator that this current roster/coaching staff has a very low chance of winning a playoff series.

It's amazing we have as good a record as we do.

I agree, it is truly amazing.

Our record despite everything could be a major gift if we can put it together somewhat. I expected us to be a few games under .500 and have to claw our way back in this thing. I just hope we get a good version of Nurk back and start trending in the right direction in those stats.

Yeah, it's an indicator of the problem, and the problem is our style of play which I dont believe is conducive for success against the top teams in the league. So Im looking for improvement in our style of play.

When you consider our most impressive win in 2021 other than Philadelphia is against an 8th place Dallas team that just beat us by 40, it's not that amazing.

If we had the 5th hardest schedule instead of the 5th easiest, we'd be sitting at 18-25 instead of 25-18.

So your logic is: Our record is an indicator that our style of play is bad, unless we end up having a good record against playoff teams with our current style, and then it's no longer an indicator?

If we were 12-0 against the top West teams with our style (which we're not), then I would think that is an indicator that our style has a good chance of success against those teams in the playoffs. Am I way off base?

That's the thing. People were blaming Olshey for not getting a backup center for Enes but he knows Stotts ain't gonna play him regardless.

Now we're going to blame the coach for roster creation?

Does Olshey work for Stotts or the other way around? This post makes it seem like Olshey feels like he must do what Stotts wants or else Stotts will fire him

Reg season is all about beating bad teams. Spurs title teams used to have bad record against playoff teams during reg season. Beat playoff teams in playoffs. That’s what matters. OKC was 4-0 against us in 2018-19. They had amazing record against top teams. That didn’t take them far. We took them down in 5 games when it mattered.

We would never be close to 12-0 against the top teams in the West with our style of play, that seems to be the part you're not understanding.

We only need to play .571 ball to win in playoffs. Surely we can do that with our level of play?

We have a backup C and he doesn't play. Wed rather play Melo/RoCo at C to play the useless Hood instead of using a serviceable backup C.

Reading through this thread I can’t help but wonder if I am watching the same team as some of you.

This TEAM is truly awful. It’s one saving grace is a top 3 player bailing it out.

The defense is on milk cartons.

Also I think Hood is actually our worst defender (and that says a lot !). I don't think he offered much more resistance than a chair last night on that end

You still got to admit that was a pretty bad effort in a game they could have and probably should have won.
I'm with ya on the "beat the teams you are supposed to beat" thing but they had this game if the effort was there on defense. It wasn't there tonight.
IMO this was a win that got away.
