Game 5 Canes vs. Rangers thread

I still believe game 1 will be the difference in the series. Uphill climb - 87% of teams up 2-0 win the series, 79% of teams that win game 5 of a 2-2 series win the series. We can dismiss %'s all we want, but there is a reason they are what they are. Doesn't mean we cannot win, of course we can and I think we have a good shot to win game 6, but those %'s are real telling.

Game 1 L was turning point in series to me. That was our shot.

The series was 2-2 and the Rangers completely no showed. That's all there is to it.

Yep. Completely no show from most of the team including the coach. Why wait until the third to make adjustments? I was screaming from period one when it looked like they were half asleep

Something will have to give as Carolina hasn't lost at home and hasn't won on the road in the playoffs.

Carolina played like crap game 4...I guess the coach and the team sucked then too..

Panarin is obviously a major disappointment but Kreider needs to be ashamed of himself. Has one shot in the three road games this series. Seems uninterested in getting in front of the net.

Look - go back home and win game 6. Then you play an anything can happen game 7. All we can do. Can't feel overly confident we'd win a game 7, but you get there and see what happens.

First things first, need to focus on game 6. You have to figure that at some point Carolina will play a good road game, they are due, so game 6 will not be easy.

Not sure what the coach should do when Panarin is invisible just about every game, and Kreider hasn't made a flight to Carolina yet. Lazy and weak to blame the coach for that.

Correct, in big games you need your big players to perform.

The coach's job is to make game adjustments as soon as you see your team is getting horribly outplayed. Gallant does zero adjustments until too late. Playing Rooney and Reaves in every game does not make sense when you have better options.

Care to elaborate on who the better options are?

Nope, nope and nope. Maybe...MAAAYYYYYYBBBBBEEEEEEEEEE Hunt in place of Reaves if the prospect for a physical game 6 is low. However, I still think they are better off sticking with Reaves and making it physical game. The Canes don't play well when the games are particularly physical, the key for the Rangers is bringing that edgy play. Establishing a forceful physical presence is the driving factor for the Rangers to win.

The whole team, other than maybe Lafreniere, looked like they swallowed a 1/2 bag of cement.

You can't make excuses but not having Goodrow and Blais in the playoffs is a bad thing for this team. Honestly, they have done amazing well considering two guys they brought in with Stanley Cup expereince have barely played in the playoffs. If they can win game 6, anything can happen in a game 7. Maybe the Canes get tight. I'm excited to potentially see Othmann and Cuylle make this team soon. They are the types of players that project well to NHL playoff hockey.

Yep..I'm not going to bail on this team..and havent...unlike a few

I know you're a super fan, but admitting we lost fair and square because we didn't play well doesn't make you any less virtuous.

Trouba and Panarin have struggled in the playoffs. Goodrow and Blais are huge losses

Kreider who's supposed to be the defacto captain and is their leading goal scorer has one shot on goal over three games in Carolina. That's unacceptable.

If Panarin and Kreider don’t play big in game six and seven we’re screwed

The bar we set for some of the dmen is interesting. Truthfully I think all of the dmen have been pretty good outside of Nemeth. Not perfect, make mistakes as all players do, but overall I think our dmen have been solid to good - maybe outside of a couple of up and down games in Pitt where the whole team collapsed.

You need your best players to play that way in big spots. Panarin has been pretty invisible the whole playoffs outside of the game 7 winner, and Kreider has not shown up in Carolina. We need better from those two guys I believe. Hopefully we'll see it in game 6.
