Unless of course, the two defenders stay with him at half court. I will take 4 on 3 if CJ and Powell and RoCo are also on the court.

If we don't have enough talent outside of Dame to score 115+ playing 4 on 3, then we're in real trouble. I'm with you, I think we do if we have those 3 on the court.

It's the giving up 130 that is far more worrisome.

same old song. Good team sells out defense to blanket Dame and dare the other Blazers to beat them.. which they can't. Strategy has worked for 7 years. Good games from Powell, CJ, and RoCo and it was still a 20 point hole halfway thru the 4th Q

I have some skepticism about the small, 3-guard lineup too
The hole was because of defense. Offense was fine.

Yeah, the 47 points given up in the first quarter may have been a problem.
37 would have been too much let alone 47.
I mean what team gives up 37 points in the first quarter consistently other than the Blazers?

Have we given up 37 1st quarter points more than we've scored 37? I don't know the answer, just curious.

I think we outscore our opponents in the 1st quarter on average.

Stuff like this will get you banned from the sportsbook in Vegas... nailed it!
Ya, I don’t gamble though. Maybe I should. My brother does BigTime and gets pissed at me when I work in Vegas. I’m down there in a normal year probably 3 weeks a year and we always stay in a casino. He just can’t understand how I walk through a casino floor everyday multiple times and not gamble just once.
I honestly think it’s because I was broke for so many years after high school, I had no disposable income whatsoever, so when I started actually having some, I was not about to blow it away!

Not against good teams.

That would make sense.

We're getting ourscored by the teams better than us and we're outscoring the teams that we're better than. Seems about right.

That isn't what i said at all.
The statement was giving up 37 points in the first quarter let alone 47.
Good teams. Better than the Blazers or not was never the question. The Blazers are giving up first quarter points at an alarming rate. Matter of fact it seems that the Blazers have actually come from behind quite a bit this season. I like the coming from behind part. Getting behind at the beginning of games? Not so much.

My question was how many times have we given up 37 in the first quarter? I truly don't know. I agree with you, that it's bad.

You followed it up with "I think we outscore our opponents in the first quarter on average"
Decent teams even ones we have beaten have scored well in the first quarter. Yes bad teams the Blazers definitely have been better than.
All speculation because i have not looked it up either but it sure seems even when the Blazers score more they still give up well over 30 points in the first?
Watched most of the beginnings of games. Not all mind you, but i sure feel like the Blazers pretty regular give up 30-35 points.

Fallen off? He’s had trash defense since he set foot on an NBA court. Him and Harden are literally known as one of those worst defending guards out there
Dame actually wasn't that bad last year this year though he has fallen short on the defense side of the ball.

Understood.

The only reason I brought up the fact that we had outscored our opponents in the 1st quarter in general was I had seen that stat on the TV or something. I thought after what you said, you had had seen something about us giving up 37+ points "x" amount of times. I truly am curious what that number is and how it compares. I would not be surprised if it was way out of proportion with our other quarter or the rest of the league, I just truly don't know.

I think we give up just under 30ppg in the 1st quarter, on average. Which to your point, means we've given up more than 30 plenty of times. 37, I'm not sure about.

It’s the same shit pretty much every time we play a good team. Teams sell out to stop Dame and Stotts does nothing to counter it. For example, why not let CJ dribble the ball up the court so teams stop blitzing at half court?

Everyone wants to blame Stotts and I agree almost completely, but it’s also still hilarious to me that Olshey thought Kanter and Melo (and Simons) would be a good pairing off the bench.

When Nurk and Jones and Roco play together our defense is fine, but when we go to any other unit we get obliterated. Kanter is a nothing defensively, it’s almost like he’s not even there. It only gets compounded when Melo is also out there because he can’t keep anyone in front of him.

It’ll never happen because Terry is robocop, but RHJ needs to be in the rotation when he signs, preferably over Melo. I’ll take the “hit” offensively for what he provides defensively. We’ve got enough other guys that can score.
No way Stotts benches Melo.

29 times we've given up 30+

5 times we've given up 37

4 times we've given up 40+

3 times we've given up 45+

I may be off by one on the 45+, but its still too many.

Looked up the Clippers, a roster with a bunch of defensive players:

7 times over 35 points
1 time over 37
1 time over 40
0 times over 45

Thank you for the data... not pretty!

Granted I did a rough count. I can go back and write each individual one down and have an accurate count... but I know I'm not off by more than one or two.

It's probably close enough... a second count won't make it look great!

Yeah... Melo had the worst +/- on the team (-19) for a reason that game... I had all the contested shots he bricks, so frustrating
That game for sure.
Yes he had some better games but they ain't happening much lately.

If i was Stotts i would be on the horn to Olshey telling him "I'm sorry but it's Melo or Me. Take your pick"

Olshey should let both go so nobody is jealous !
But in all seriousness, even if Olshey should get rid of Melo, Stotts is still making the decision to give him all those post touches that result in bad shots, playing him more than any other reserve and playing him at C
