At this point they better think long and hard about getting rid of Meyers. I don't give a rats azz about what the haters want to say. The dude is a quality backup big right now. Are there better? Yes. Can the Blazers get one that is better? Now that is the $10 million question now isn't it? get real tired of reading "Dump Meyers" when the guy has been here, knows the offense, is shooting his ass off, and wants to be with this team.

Yep as I said in the "trade deadline thread" we will have 40 million next year in expiring salaries. He is part of that and if he keeps playing the way he has....teams will not hate getting him back in the deal. Bottom line is he has value.

I'll say this too: when he was being interviewed by Brooke, I was struck at how intelligent he was with his knowledge of basketball.

I just wish it translated more often to the court.

You know what I’m getting real tired of? People not understanding what “dumping Meyers” actually means.

With the way we play now it would be fun to run a unit of

Dame
CJ
Terrence Ross
Jake
Nurk

That could be a lot of fun to watch if those guys both came off the bench for us.

I’ll expand on this. To the people against this idea, I have one question:

Would you rather have Meyers for another season, and a pick that most likely will land somewhere in the 20s, or would you rather have one of these guys for the next four seasons, plus whichever player we get in return (Ross or Dedmon/Prince for example) to match salaries?

- Wes Matthews
- Tyreke Evans
- JJ Redick
- Terrence Ross
- Rudy Gay
- Jabari Parker
- JaMychal Green
- Garrett Temple
- Danny Green
- Enes Kanter
- Bobby Portis
- Brook Lopez
- Morris twins
- Nikola Mirotic
- Jeremy Lamb
- Reggie Bullock
- Noah Vonleh
- Thaddeus Young
- Trevor Ariza
- Kelly Oubre
- Demarre Carroll
- Taj Gibson
- Alec Burks
- Rodney Hood
- Bojan Bogdanovic

Missed the game tonight. Just checking out the highlights and stats.

Some things that jump out:
- Another good game by Layman.
- No Leonard?
- CJ and Dame both delivered.
- Another good game from Curry.

Now lets take care of business on our 4-game home-stand against Atlanta, Utah, Miami, and San Antonio!

At least half that list .....Yeah i would.
The other half ain't gonna happen.
Then you are talking about giving up a pick also? Get out of here.

Just so you have the number correct.
The Blazers are 30-20= 50 games.
.500 would be 25-25.
They are currently 5 games over 500.

How many games would they have to lose to be .500? That's how many games "over" .500 they are.

They would be 5 games ahead of a team with a .500 record, but they are 10 games over .500.

This conversation has been had a number of times. They have played 50 games. Half of 50 is 25. If they played more games then that number would change as the amount of games are played. At the end of the season they will have played 82 games. 500 would then be 41-41. At least that is my take on it. But yes if they lost 10 games they would indeed be 30-30 and you could say they are a 500 team.

All I'm saying is that the term "games above .500" has a fixed consensus definition despite the vocal minority who take umbrage therewith. Personal displeasure with the definition does not change its validity.

Cannot argue the "Unbrage Therewith" stance. It gives me "Personal Displeasure" and i have a "Fixed Consensus" with that "Validity".

You're confusing games ahead with games above.

Look you just had this conversation and said the exact same thing last year. 50 games played. A 500 record would be 25-25. There i no argument about that. They would have to lose 10 games to be 30 - 30. There is no argument about that either. A 500 team at the end of the season is 41-41. try not to get confused here. Their current winning percentage is .666. What else do you need to know?

Answer me this:

Before last night's game how many games above .500 were they?

Just to pick nits, 30 and 20= .600. Still better than .500, but not .666.

Agreed. At $10M with one year remaining, I no longer consider Meyers a bad contract. You really couldn't ask for a better teammate.
I would definitely include Meyers in a trade if we were getting value back. But I definitely WOULD NOT attach assets in order to dump Meyers.

What players will be free agents the following year when our large contracts expire? To make an educated decision you have to look at all angles.

Did you go to the game?

Nah. Too lazy to drive downtown. I watched the Suns’ broadcast, which gave a different perspective on things. They were pretty complimentary about the Blazers. Jake seems to be in their heads a bit. 24 against the Suns in Portland and 20 last night.

Last two games you see Aminu playing time is getting lesser. Against OKC he barely play in the 4th against Phoenix he didn't play in the 2nd and in the 4th. It been Layman out there taking those minutes. Meyers didn't play at all last night. What see there a trade coming between 3 players Aminu Layman Leonard. Is Layman getting a lot minutes due to there going trade Aminu or are they show casing Layman for a trade with him. Both players are in there contract year. Did Leonard get shut down last night due to they are going to trade him. But remember I am speculating what might be happening.

None of them. All of those are players that will be free agents this summer that Scalma is suggesting could be available to sign here twith the full MLE that would be made available to us by using a pick to dump a contract.

Aminu hurt his finger last night and likely the reason he didn't play in the 4th in a blowout.

That wasn't my point. I was wondering who will be the free agents the next year when we will definitely be below the cap to have the full mle. Is it worthwhile losing an asset for next year or keep the asset and go after a free agent the following year for the full mle.

The Blazers only have six players under contract for the 20-21 season at $90M. That includes Biggie, and my educated guess says they won’t be picking up his $3.6M option. So that’s really only five players under contract.
