Game Thread Game 6: THE WE WILL NOT GO DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT GAME

Not complicated. It is the simplest non destruction series to dissect I have ever seen.

  • Totally control series games 1-5.
  • Blow games 2 & 5 we never should have lost. Awful decisions by the coach late in the games. Poor execution by the players late in the games. 4 or 5 soft goals allowed by Hank.
  • Game 6 we are flat from the start (told you how important the start was and we'd know after 10-12 minutes...and we knew). We played ONE period tonight...and it was almost enough against Ottawa.
  • We lost a series we had zero business losing, to a team that we are clearly better than. Coach should get fired for it (he won't). Big changes should happen this summer (think they may).
  • And give Ottawa credit. They deserved this because they played the big moments in the deciding games 2 & 5 much better.

Again...pretty simple really.

I'll spare you nothing strud. Because you don't want to hear the truth of what the deal was this series, that is fine. What I wrote is reality. Not as complicated as the 7080987896 posts that are about to follow.

Too disgusted to even think about the major changes needed for this team going forward. Going to fucking bed now

Sign some vets...what the F would that do. Jesus. Let the reinventing of the wheel begin...LOL.

Yup, keep the revolving door of coaches going. That will solve everything.

First mistake was making them favorites before the series. They never do well when they are the favorites.

I'll say this. It serves no purpose to replay what can't be changed. The fact is they lost the games and just weren't good enough.

Aside from the late blown leads and some no-shows the pp just killed them.

The difference in this series was the Senators ability to protect a 1 goal lead for 19 minutes, the Rangers couldn't protect a 1 (or even a 2) goal lead.

Agree 717...what is done is done. Cannot change it. We look forward. We need to make changes now. Girardi or Staal must go (I say or because I cannot see a way we can move both). I would really look to move Stepan before his NTC kicks in. I personally would keep Nash (unless we get a big offer). His 7.8 mill off the cap next summer is huge. Sign another dman (Shatty or resign Smith).

That's all a start. Then go from there.

Chuck I hear you but they had game 6 to play and lost. Can't look back when they had an opportunity to win

Miller and Hayes were horrendous. They should think about trading Hayes for a similar young player. He's too slow and sucked all playoffs

IF Hank can still be a very good goalie, not great but very good, I do think this team can reshape quickly and be really good again.

We have a lot of youth. That Zib trade will look better and better. Have to hope Hayes, Miller and Kreider learn from this down playoff run. Add Shatty or have Smith back to go with McDonagh and Skjei (who could develop into a top pair dman). Add in Buch and Vesey should only get much better. I really think we are in a good spot.

Hopefully we can keep Lindberg away from Vegas.

I don't disagree strud, but the series was not lost tonight...just wasn't man. They were flat as can be after game 5's gut punch. I understand that on some level. Series was lost in 2 & 5.

And I know we want to trade 7 people right now, but that cannot happen, so let's stay grounded.

chuck, you always say that after every playoffs. You are ignoring the fact that there is a guy behind the bench who has been out coached consistently in the playoffs.

I'd keep Nash for the final year. He has played well and he's the best pure goal scorer they have. Stepan is not a #1 center and should be moved to wing. If Zibanejad is the future then treat him as such and move him up to the first line.

Right now I have to say I really do wish they would fire AV. I personally think he did a god awful job in this series against an inferior team. I could list 10 things I think.

He will be back though, so we have to hope he stops with the experience nonsense right now. To me he said all the wrong things after game 5...Brooks was 100% correct.

My top 3:

  1. Find a way out of Staal or Girardi. Can anything be done with Vegas where we don't have to buyout Girardi. The buyout will be done if it needs to be, but man it is not a good looking deal for us moving forward.
  2. Trade Stepan. Forget wing. Him at 6.5 per with a NTC is a disaster. Somehow find a team that would covet what he adds and deal him.
  3. I would look at a new coach, but I know this one isn't happening.

Make a call to Sutter, Gorton. Wont win shit with this guy behind the bench. Four years is enough for him.

At least Vesey and Buch plus Skjei look like keepers and maybe someone like Graves or one of the other d acquisitions turn into something. Maybe Gropp makes a push next year though he could be a year away. I wouldn't mind bringing Smith back but who knows.

As I said previously I don't see what the obsession with Sutter is. Walked into a good situation in Los Angeles and was also below .500 in the playoffs prior to that.

I know everything is down right now, but it is a nice base. This was always a transition year. It became more than that after our hot start and move to the Atlantic bracket. Then we got a team we were better than in round 2 and said why not us. I get that, I lived that also. But if we follow the plan this was a transition year.

I like looking forward to what we have growing upfront. And Graves adding to McDonagh/Skjei/Smith or Shatty on D. That's a nice base for good things I think if we can make the right 2 or 3 moves around it.

The guy has two cups, good situation or not. Our guy has zero. Can we at least give Sutter a chance for two years?
