As good as Whiteside has been this year, he is not great at closing on shooters and boxing out. Whiteside would be damn good defensively if our other starters could make up for his lack of quickness and let him stay in the paint but nope.

Blazers only 3 games ahead of the Suns for the #9 Lottery pick.

Teams just attack Melo in the pick and roll and have their way. I’d like Melo off the bench but knowing Stotts and his overconfidence in vets, I think it’s best Olshey moves on from him.

I think its time we move on from Stotts too

Monty owns Stotts

Carmelo has a good game , then a game like tonight some people conveniently forget.

I wouldn't be surprised if Stotts hasnt beat him
Beat a Monty coached Pelicans 3 times in 14-15 (only played 3 times)
Beat a Monty coached Pelicans 3 times in 13-14 (3-1)
Beat a Monty coached Pelicans 1 time in 12-13 (1-2)

I believe that's 8-5 Stotts over Monty. (1-2 this year, 3-0, 3-1 and 1-2).

Typical S2 Whiteside and Stotts bashing, but yet nobody mention how awful Dame was in the game, no fire, no motivation, not even trying. As a leader who talks so much about making the Playoffs i dont see it on the court.

He was god awful today. Terrible body language and didn’t care at all tonight

I kind of thought that game was pretty much on Melo myself. Dude was atrocious on both sides of the ball.

this is a system issue, not a player one. Don’t forget fans shitted on Nurkic allll the time for the same shit they’re blaming Whiteside for now. “Why is he leaving the center open??” Well, because he’s asked to do two things at once. He’s asked to protect the rim AND get out on the shooter. You could put Gobert out there and the difference would be minimal. It also doesn’t help that our perimeter guys struggle so much getting around a pick.

Yep, and you dont see anyone here saying that, because Lillard is imun to criticism, it's easier to bash Whiteside and Stotts

I've watched 8 years of Stotts defense now in Portland

it wouldn't matter if it was JJ Hickson, or Robin Lopez, or Chris Kaman, or Mason Plumlee, or Nurkic, or Meyers, or Zach, or Whiteside....Baynes would have had almost all those open three's against any of those C's because of the Blazer defensieve schemes...and yeah I meant to spell it as defensieve

Whiteside is not mobile, but he was hedging into the paint like all Blazer bigs hedge into the paint. And let's at least recognize that Baynes came into this game shooting 33% on three's. Where the fuck was the coaching adjustment when it became clear Baynes was hot?

and after tonight I think when it comes to Portland I'm sticking with defensieve
