I agree there are times when I say CJ did you really have to do that to accomplish what you needed?
That play on Bridges hanging was not one of them.
Easily you can see both ways and why both teams were complaining.
One for delay of game, the other for not allowing a player to land.
One hanging on the rim waiting for traffic to clear, the other trying to get around a swinging player to get the ball in bounded quickly to keep pace.

But like I said previously. CJ is the new Meyers Leonard.
The only difference is CJ has a confidence about him that people don't like. They see it as cocky, arrogance.

The shove by Whiteside was still far worse than CJ not allowing a player hanging from the rim to land. That's a dirty play, similar to the Ariza play on Rudy.
My biggest issue with CJ is his contract, but really cant hate the man for getting paid. Just seems like a lot, but not gonna derail this. I agree with your points.

Good win. Cant wait for Nurk to come back!

I think Phoenix used up all their 'great-shooting-mojo' against Portland 5 nights ago. They bricked a lot of open shots tonight

We all knew even in an empty gym Baynes isn't going to normally hit 9 of 14 from deep.

To be clear, your issue is with the contract Olshey gave CJ, not CJ's game itself, correct?

Matters where your allegiance lies.
Suns wanted something for CJ not allowing a player to land.
Portland wanted a delay of game.

I favor the delay of game because I'm a Portland fan.
You clearly favor CJ being a dirty player.

Whiteside shoving Baynes in the back to prevent a dunk was far worse.
Not a basketball play intentional foul. Could've been called a tech easily.
What the fuck man? I've actually been pro-CJ this year a lot more than in the past.

I don't have any bias here. CJ gets frustrated and commits dirty fouls sometimes. Whether you think tonight's was dirty or not is of course debatable but some of his others are not. I also didn't get a clear view of the Whiteside push and it was too late to go back when I heard someone mention it so I can't comment on that one until I see it again.

When I saw the Whiteside push live, I thought they'd review it and call a flagrant, but I never went back and watched the replay.

Tough thread to read. So Negative even in a win?

Blazers need all the wins they can get at this point. Thought i watched a better team tonight. Maybe something to build on?

There are parts of his game I definitely dont like, but my issue is mostly that he just recieved a contract that should be reserved for guys who are capable of producing more, more efficiently.

McCollum's salary is 26th in the league and the 34th salary is only about 400k less so by comparison his salary isn't all that out of line. As for salaries, most all of NBA players are being paid ridiculous amounts of money.

Life in S2 Blazer fan forum where negativity is considered cool. It's why i find myself posting less and less in this forum as it's getting harder and harder to tell when we actually win as the vibe between winning and losing has become almost indistinguishable.

The team played a better game. They played with more intensity and they looked better on defense. I watched people working harder at defending the 3 point shot. Didn't matter who was closest they were trying to get a hand in the face of the shooter. I watched a more team oriented effort at rebounding. Melo was back to trying to get some rebounds. He was passing the ball at times though he still looks to score a bit more than i like. There was some good effort by Biggie. That kid works hard if nothing else. Mario seems to be getting a little faith in his shot?

Looking for the same kind of effort Thursday.

I just read through the last 80 or so posts in this game thread--I found them to be largely positive. I'm not sure why some are complaining about "negativity".

I thought compared to recent game threads it was fine too. Realistically though we've seen this multiple times this year where Portland beats a bad team and hopes get raised only to see them lay an egg in their next important game. It's difficult to get super positive even after wins.

We most certainly have seen worse yes. But the team played well. Pretty much controlled the game from the beginning. I guess we have grown accustomed?

must be missing something with all this optimism, but we are effectively 11th, not 9th. NO and Sac are ahead of us. it's the loss column that matters
Right. I don't know why some are focusing on Memphis.

I realize they all make a lot of money. I just think his extension hurts the team, any trades will more than likely they'll get the short end of them, and they have almost no flexibility or money to spend in FA. I really don't hate CJ, I think he's a 'good' nba player, but he's being paid IMO like he's a star/superstar and I don't believe he is.

Anyways... The Blazers need to keep winning if they want that dream alive.

52 players in the NBA are making 20mil or more this year. Otto Porter who is a forum favorite is making about the same money as McCollum as well as Andrew Wiggens. It's today's NBA and no amount of crying about it is going to change it. I've been an advocate for a individual salary cap, but I know it's not likely and don't get concerned with players salaries as they are what they are. What do you think he is worth?

Right. I don't know why some are focusing on Memphis.

Because they have the 8th spot right now. The focus is on the 8th spot and until someone displaces Memphis then they should and will be the focus. If someone moves ahead of them then they will be the focus.

I'm not crying, I can have an opinion without crying. I think he's worth about 15-20, I know in the NBA everything is inflated so I think on the open market he would get 22-23. Most of the guys getting paid more are wings, Porter, Wiggins, Barnes, etc all have the added bonus even if they aren't great defenders that they can switch and defend 3 (at least positions) if they need too. The Blazers are paying 2 guys who cannot really switch much a huge amount of money and Dame is a superstar so he should get that money, and it makes sense to pay one... Heck if the Blazers didn't have Dame then the contract for CJ would make a lot more sense IMO. It's a wing's league and because of how much were paying our guards we can't really afford the type of players to go around them that we need. I realize they made the WCF's last year, and injuries this year and all that, but look at almost all the teams competing for championships the last few years they have at least one "upper tier" forward, the Blazers can't really afford that anymore. They have to hope they get one in the draft.

He's getting paid like he's DeRozan or Wiggins. There are hardly any names on the list of players that make CJ-money that were ever available for us to spend his salary on...unless you realy want Kevin Love. Having CJ's salary to spend on free agents would just get us several average players, much worse than CJ.
CJ, as both a player and a trade chip, is much more valuable than a handful of turds on small contracts.
You want a salary to hate - wait a couple years for Dame's to kick in! Thats going to be the one that kicks us in the nuts.

I kind of like when they play Mario and let him bring the ball up and let the guards play off him. Taking a little pressure off Dame and letting him run off screens with out the ball is a good plan. Does he make bad passes on occasion yes, but so does Dame. I think it also gets Mario into the flow of the game better because he is not a spot up shooter. I hope they continue letting him run the point off and on through out the games.
