Look at the names on that list. Wow. What I like most about his game against NOP was that he didn't just rely on his outside jumper. He mixed it up with some fantastic drives to the hoop against two of the top shot blockers in the league (Davis and Okafor). And when he wasn't scoring, he picked up 9 rebounds, 6 assists (no turnovers), 4 steals, and of course 1 W.

PF’s called is the smokescreen refs use to say that a game was fairly called. No, fuck that. If you’re driving and shooting inside against big guys, they’re probably fouling you. Every opponent hasn’t magically figured out how to get to the line 10 more times per game than us in the last five games.

Davis was getting hammered just as much as, if not more than, Dame was last night.

And no, it's not magic and they just didn't figure it out. James Harden has made a career out of drawing fouls and getting to the line. He didn't just magically figure it out in the last five games.

Well, we've also been playing better teams with players like James Harden and Russell Westbrook who get a LOT of calls. Also, it seems like we're shooting a few more 3-pointers per game lately, which will also have a negative impact on drawing fouls.

I think maybe you give Stan Van too much credit. He may look like a James Bond villain, but those guys never win in the end.

Re: 3PA - in the ten games before Stan complained we shot 32 three per game; in the five games afterward, 31.2; so no, it’s not more threes. And it’s not just that opponents are shooting more FTs. We’re shooting fewer. Like 8 fewer per game. That’s not because Harden and Russ get to the line more.

We are shooting 8 fewer FTAs per game since Stan complained. THAT’S FUCKING HUGE and not a product of opponents getting to the line more (which they also are).

Sample size is too small and too many variable to attribute the difference in FTA to Van Gundy's whining. We've also played 3 of the top 10 defenses in the league in the last five games (BOS = 1, HOU = 5 and OKC = 10). So, that may have something to do with it as well.

We’re one of the best defenses in the league too, though (7th by DRtg, 5th by Opp PPG).

Let’s keep an eye on this though. It’s suspicious, and I understand why you’re skeptical. But boy is it a funny coinkey-dink.

I'm happy for you man! i know you waited for a while for CJ to have a bad game. :twothumbs:

Good grief....it was a comment on one game in response to a specific post. But if 'waiting a while' is your thing, you only have to go back to the HOU game and he was terrible then too. He was great against the Thunder...so there is objectivity. How the heck did it get to the point on this board you can't make a casual observation without someone trying to have a 'gotcha' moment? SMH....

Don't blame the O-Live newbies. They ain't the ones picking the fights..... Just Sayin :biglaugh:

I actually liked that the refs were letting the players play. It kept the game moving and I think it worked in Portland's favor. I know Dame was getting frustrated about not getting calls, but it works both ways and at least the refs were consistent.

Without Moe, I was worried about Nurk picking up too many quick fouls on Davis. He picked up his 3rd foul with 7.5 seconds left in the 2nd quarter, but was able to play the entire second half without picking up another foul. That let Nurk be physical and play like a beast, and that always seems to work in Portland's favor. If the refs had been calling every ticky-tacky foul, sure Dame would have gotten to the line more, but Nurk may have been sitting on the bench for long stretches and playing soft to avoid picking up another foul while on the court.

I think after a while, it also forced Dame to quit looking for the call and focus on creating good, makeable shots. Sometimes, you can tell he just puts his head down, draws contact and hopes to get a call. Last night, once it became obvious he wasn't going to get those calls, he stopped trying that tactic and worked for better shots.

BNM

I think it did work in our favor.

Everytime CJ has a bad game, you (and a few other posters) stand here amazed like you've never seen a scorer go 4 for 17 or whatever. It's not "a casual observation" if you do it 100% of the time.
I don't remember one time this season where CJ had a bad game and you weren't right here in perfect timing in order to "point it out".

He's not a top 10 player in this league, we get it. I damn near expect him to have a bad game once or twice a month, We're still lucky to have him.

You are becomming unbearable, I stopped reading the game thread through the first quarter yesterday because you made it absolutely unreadable and unenjoyable
Almost to a point where you might want to quit? I hope not.

Shooters go through slumps...expected. I'd just like to see him be able to do something else when his scoring game is off. Not unreasonable, right? As for "He's not a top 10 player in this league", who ever said that he was?

He's an above average passer, if Stotts gave him possession of the ball all the time so he can get fake assists numbers would it help? is he suppose to become an elite shot blocker like prime D-Wade all of a sudden?

Russel Westbrook can do everything besides scoring, but his team looks like complete shit when he bricks. Who cares if he hangs around the rim to take away some rebounds from Adams? they are still likely to lose in every one of his brick nights.

The reasonable request should be made to Stotts. If CJ (or even Dame for that matter) shoot like ass in a particular game, then it's his job to manage the situation instead of telling them: "you'll get the next one"\"keep shooting it".
