Why did they cut it down to 7 episodes? Because the books haven't been written yet?

They took a 13 episode season, added an episode, and then cut the 14 episodes into 2 seasons.

I guess that makes sense.

So what do you think the chances are of a spinoff? I personally want to see Ned Stark as a young warrior with Robert Baratheon.

Pretty high. There's been a lot of talk of spin-offs and I've always thought Martin's world-building (or maybe I should say myth/history-building) was robust enough to justify more stories told in the world. I'd love to see, as you said, Robert's Rebellion and the events leading up to it. Plus there's the Targaryan's rise to power that could be fun to watch. Honestly, the Stark history and Lannister history could probably each sustain a spin-off. I don't know how many they'd want to do, but there's plenty of material, IMO.

I agree with Minstrel in part. lots of talk about spin offs etc. I believe that the fact that everyone already knows the out come of Roberts rebellion, makes that story a poor choice. As there have been no book to follow, the show quality suffers, as we have seen. Would end up with "Joanie loves Chochi" VS "Happy Days".

A better choice in my opinion, would be to do the Dunk and Egg stories. Several books, lots of familiar characters and great stories.

Has anyone watched the leaked episode yet?

I guess it was accidentally released in Spain for five hours yesterday.

I was a lot more engaged in the show when it was more like a fantasy-lite version of The War of the Roses. Now that it's gone full video game mode I'm really starting to lose interest.

You knew it had to happen sometime though. The last season is basically going to be 2/3 D&D and 1/3 War of the Roses.

It's to the point where you know these people aren't going to die. Which is what made the show so good at the beginning, dudes would just perish out of nowhere.

And I saw the zombie dragon thing a mile away.

Meh, whatever. Not like I'm gonna stop watching lol.

Littlefinger gone next week. No insider, just a feeling. Arya with the knife. Then she'll have control of the vale army
I can definitely get behind that. I think Clegane Bowl happens next episode as well. Hound vs Mountain.
