I was bird watching today after the eclipse and saw a Raven. Pretty cool!

A few thoughts.

For a show that is supposed to be all "Tits and dragons", there sure have been a lot of dragons.

On that subject, seem like they spent all of the budget on dragons at the expense of decent writing.

The past six years there was always an episode or two that exceeded television standards, still waiting this season.

Really? Episode 6 was phenomenal.

Perception is fascinating. I found many things in the episode laughable.

Kill the lone White walker and all the wrights die except for one hapless clown walker.

Send Gendry to run to the wall, alone, so he can send a raven to Dany, so that she can fly the length of a content on her dragon to save the day....okay suspend disbelief. So what are the walkers doing this whole time...ahhhh, yeah, standing there..until Sander tosses a rock and hits the brainless drone, that for some reason becomes aware that the ice has re formed..

Jon under water for half the show...

Sir Friendzone travels half way around the world to be cured by some miracle of script, only to return to Dany. What does he do upon arrival? Take a trip to the wall.

I could go on..

In fact, every POV in this episode was silly.

You can definitely tell they don't have the books for material any more. The sad thing is idk if I'll even care to read them by the time they do come out.

I understand your point. After all these years, I will read the books. The reason the show was good to begin with was because of the books.

Yeah I definitely understand reading them after all this time, its just it has been like 7 years since the last one, and I've watched the entire show in between the books, my mind is completely muddled with what is in the book, and what is in the show.

well, the length of time between books gives you the opportunity to re read them all between release

Littlefinger gone next week. No insider, just a feeling. Arya with the knife. Then she'll have control of the vale army

I wouldn't be surprised if Littlefinger is already gone and the Littlefinger we saw in the latest episode is already Arya, which ends up revealed next episode. The discussion he had with Sansa also makes sense if it was Arya trying to determine what Sansa's concerns are.

Probably not, I guess, but it would be a neat reveal.

I have a bunch of books sitting on my shelf to read that I would probably read before going back to them tbh.

As someone who has heard leaks about what will happen................ I'm not finishing this comment.

I think Sansa and Arya get together in the next episode, squash the beef, and put Little Finger down for good. I also expect CleganeBowl.

Thanks. I'm always down to hear people's opinions and theories, but don't want to hear a possible spoiler.

I don't want to spoil anything, but I think that ending scene, where the dead dragon's eye opened means the white walkers have an undead dragon (or frost wyrm). Did you notice that the eye was blue? Blue eyes with no whites is always a sign of undeath in the GRRM universe.

I'm pretty sure of this one. Just been seeing lots of confusion over what that final scene meant.

Ooooh! Interesting. That'd be cool.

I was a lot more engaged in the show when it was more like a fantasy-lite version of The War of the Roses. Now that it's gone full video game mode I'm really starting to lose interest.

When I first read this post, I didn't agree and thought it was a bit unfair. It didn't seem "video gamey" to me, aside from the fast travel option. But after thinking about it, I agree to some extent. The "high fantasy" aspects (that I presume BlazerCaravan was referring to with the "D&D" comment) don't bother me--a fantasy series needs to have some magic. As much as I love people sitting around a table and talking (and I do love that--I much prefer palace intrigue fantasy, like A Song of Ice and Fire, to heroic quest fantasy, like Lord of the Rings), it can't be all talking, especially in a visual medium like TV. The dragons and sorcery are fine. What bugged me in the last episode was the pointlessly long hack-and-slash sequence between Jon's merry band and the wights. I realize that it's meant to feel raw and bloody and all of that, and that worked quite well in the Battle of the Bastards--that felt both epic and real. This just felt like the standard "hero band killing hundreds of low level minions."

That's kind of the point of zombies though. Honestly, I think zombies are boring, and I think the appeal of the first few books is that it's different houses doing battle for control of the realm. Now it just feels like it's going to be zombies... and I find it annoying that they made Wyverns so damn vulnerable.

I'm OK with stuff like the LoTR movies (not the Hobbitses) because you know exactly what you were getting. So much of the appeal of the GoT books/shows was that it had a very grounded sense of fantasy and it was all pretty internally consistent to its own rules . . . up until this season. I'm still giving it a chance and I understand that it's building to some kind of climax, but I just wished it would have of maintained the sort of ruthless detachment to its characters that it always did before and that there weren't the liberal use of deus ex machina; e.g. Uncle Benjen swooping in out of nowhere was ludicrous and stupid and the worst kind of fan-service wank.
