EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Chris Paul scored aseason-high 27 points and made a running layup over Jason Kiddwith two seconds left as the New Orleans Hornets rallied foran 84-82 victory over the New Jersey Nets on Monday.
Tyson Chandler had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Hornets,who have now won two in a row and will play the Philadelphia76ers for the second time in four days on Wednesday.
New Orleans put on a shooting display in the first half and ledby as many and 13 points before falling apart in the thirdquarter.
The Hornets struggled to start the fourth and trailed, 79-68,with five minutes remaining but reeled off nine straight pointsto finally forge an 82-82 tie on a four-point play by MorrisPeterson with one minute to go.
On the ensuing possession, Kidd grabbed an offensive reboundwhen Nenad Krstic missed a pair of free throws for New Jersey.But Krstic missed an off-balance jumper with 20 seconds to go,and New Orleans did not call a timeout - putting the game in thehands of its young star.
Paul let the clock wind before driving down the right side andhoisting a runner off the glass and over the outstretched handof Kidd to give the Hornets their first lead of the quarter.
After back-to-back timeouts by New Jersey, Antoine Wrightmisfired on an off-balance jumper from straight away as timeexpired.
Richard Jefferson scored 16 of his 32 points in a dominant thirdquarter but failed to score in the fourth as the Nets playedwithout star guard Vince Carter, who suffered a sprained rightankle in Saturday's loss at Boston and is sidelinedindefinitely.
