EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Chris Paul scored aseason-high 27 points and made a running layup over Jason Kiddwith two seconds left as the New Orleans Hornets rallied foran 84-82 victory over the New Jersey Nets on Monday.

Tyson Chandler had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Hornets, who have now won two in a row and will play the Philadelphia76ers for the second time in four days on Wednesday.

New Orleans put on a shooting display in the first half and ledby as many and 13 points before falling apart in the thirdquarter.

The Hornets struggled to start the fourth and trailed, 79-68,with five minutes remaining but reeled off nine straight pointsto finally forge an 82-82 tie on a four-point play by MorrisPeterson with one minute to go.

On the ensuing possession, Kidd grabbed an offensive reboundwhen Nenad Krstic missed a pair of free throws for New Jersey. But Krstic missed an off-balance jumper with 20 seconds to go,and New Orleans did not call a timeout - putting the game in thehands of its young star.

Paul let the clock wind before driving down the right side andhoisting a runner off the glass and over the outstretched handof Kidd to give the Hornets their first lead of the quarter.

After back-to-back timeouts by New Jersey, Antoine Wrightmisfired on an off-balance jumper from straight away as timeexpired.

Richard Jefferson scored 16 of his 32 points in a dominant thirdquarter but failed to score in the fourth as the Nets playedwithout star guard Vince Carter, who suffered a sprained rightankle in Saturday's loss at Boston and is sidelinedindefinitely.

Ah dont worry Nets fans your opponents for the rest of the month are fairly easy, worst case scenario is you go 4-4 against these teams IMO.

Portland
Seattle
LAL
Memphis

Most of those are on the road at our annual thanksgiving west coast trip. I'm not optimistic at all, I know my team. Thanks for the suppor though.

Re: NBA: NEW ORLEANS (5-2) at NEW JERSEY (4-2)

What the hell is going on with Sportsticker? It's posted about 8 box scores.

Re: NBA: NEW ORLEANS (5-2) at NEW JERSEY (4-2)

I missed the game as I was at school (I did tape it though, too tired to watch now) . Hornets are a solid team this year, I really have to admit it. They're playing like their name implies, annoying little bugs that just keep on coming back. How did Sean Williams do? Any cool plays from him?

Re: NBA: NEW ORLEANS (5-2) at NEW JERSEY (4-2)

Sean Williams had a couple of nice plays on both ends, but was pretty dominant on D. We were up by 6 before Twin fouled a 3 pt shot, and then we gave to ball to Krstic and Wright for grim fade-aways as our last two possessions.

Re: NBA: NEW ORLEANS (5-2) at NEW JERSEY (4-2)

thanks for the info. I'm gonna dig through this thread from page 1 in the morning but that's all I needed to see right now, appreciate it. *sigh* Twin, or as jarkid once said, "triple-zero" lmao.. onwards to Boston!

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Even the New OrleansHornets could not figure out how they pulled off an improbablevictory.

Chris Paul scored a season-high 27 points and made a runninglayup over Jason Kidd with two seconds left as the Hornetserased an 11-point deficit in the final five minutes for an84-82 victory over the New Jersey Nets.

Paul struggled through most of the second half but took overdown the stretch as New Orleans, which led by as many as 13points in the first half, avoided a collapse of its own with apair of four-point possessions and stellar play from its leader.

"There were a few times down the stretch I thought it might beover," Paul said. "But we showed a lot of fight."

"I don't know how we won the game," Hornets coach Byron Scottsaid. "This is the type of game last year we probably wouldhave lost. It says a lot about the resiliency we have as ateam."

Despite playing without injured star Vince Carter, the Netsdominated the third quarter and scored 12 of the first 15 pointsin the fourth.

The Hornets went scoreless for the first 5:44 of the finalperiod and looked lifeless, but reeled off nine straight pointsand finally forged an 82-82 tie on a four-point play by MorrisPeterson with one minute to go.

On the ensuing possession, Kidd grabbed the offensive reboundwhen Nenad Krstic missed a pair of free throws for New Jersey. But Krstic missed an off-balance jumper with 20 seconds to goand New Orleans did not call a timeout - putting the game in thehands of its young star.

"I looked at coach to see if he wanted to call a timeout and hesaid 'No, push it,'" Paul said. "I watch a lot of games andteams usually do better when they don't call timeout."

Paul let the clock wind down and took advantage off a screenfrom Tyson Chandler by driving down the right side and hoistinga runner off the glass and over the outstretched hand of Kidd togive the Hornets their first lead of the quarter.

"We ran a screen and J. Kidd got held up a little bit," Paul said. "Iknow we're at our best when I'm coming off the pick-and-rollwith Tyson rolling towards the rim. I just saw the lane andrealized, if I could get over there quick enough, I could get tomy floater."

"Chris is very creative with the ball and a great point guard,"Kidd said. "He got to his right hand and he made a tough shot, but that's what great players do."

Antoine Wright, who started in place of Carter, missed afadeaway jumper off the front of the rim as time expired.

The decisive basket capped a remarkable stretch for Paul, whoended the Hornets scoreless stretch on a 3-pointer with 6:16remaining and started the key 9-0 run with another shot from thearc at 4:25.

David West was fouled under the basket on the play and made theresulting free throw.

Paul assisted on a dunk by Chandler with 3:20 left and fed Westfor a layup that brought the Hornets within 80-78 with 2:10remaining. Wright followed with a jumper at 1:52 and the Netsappeared close to sealing the game when Jason Collins reboundedPaul's miss with 65 seconds to go.

But Paul stole the ball and made a pass to Peterson, who draineda wide-open 3-pointer just before Collins crashed into him.Peterson made the ensuing free throw to tie it.

"Chris made an unbelievable play with the steal," Peterson said."I just remember standing up on the right wing and calling hisname out and he saw me. I don't know, I just knocked it down, and it was a great feeling to be fouled."

Chandler collected 14 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks andWest had 13, eight and five assists for New Orleans, which hasbounced back from its first two losses of the season withvictories on consecutive nights.

Richard Jefferson scored 16 of his 32 points in a dominant thirdquarter but failed to score in the fourth as the Nets clearlymissed Carter, who is sidelined indefinitely a with sprainedright ankle he suffered in Saturday's loss to Boston.

Kidd had 14 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds and Krsticposted his first double-double of the season with 12 points and10 rebounds as the Nets lost consecutive games for the firsttime this campaign.

"I don't think we're wondering, we know what went wrong," Kiddsaid. "We made some mistakes down the stretch. Those type ofthings came back to hurt us."

The Hornets put on a shooting display in the first half, making49 percent (19-of-39) of their shots and 8-of-11 from 3-pointrange. They led by as many as 13 in the first half and had a49-37 halftime cushion.

But New Jersey outscored New Orleans, 30-16, in the thirdquarter led by Jefferson, who made 5-of-9 shots and 5-of-5 freethrows. The Hornets made just 6-of-18 shots and committed sixturnovers in the period.
