Gangland episode on Portland gang "The Hoovers". Pretty interesting. I had no idea they existed. 50 or 750

Yeah I watched it. The Hoovers have been around for awhile now, I've never heard of the Rollin 60's though. Kirby St. Crips have been notorious in N. Portland for a while now. I lived for a short period right outside the Columbia Villa on Lombard and Chataqua (right by Columbia Park) in the early 90's when gangs were just starting to infiltrate there from California. It was nuts, an ambulance or police car was buzzing by about every 15 minutes, then they finally put a police station in the center of the Villa. Now its all torn down with newer row houses taking up the whole place. Another bad area not mentioned is the St. Johns woods on the backside of Pier Park, crazy Cubans came there in the early 80's and were some bad ass mofo's. St. Johns has become too expensive and gentrified and the gangs have left for Southeast where its cheaper and many modern day hippies have took over. Its better than I've ever seen it.

The show was a bit exaggerated, like when they said that the Hoovers have the city on edge. LoL. Portland is still one of the safest cities when it comes to gang crimes in the U.S. for its population. If anything, they should have done a show on the 13th St. gang out on the Gresham/East Portland border. Thats where the real problem is.

Gangs, Mafia, Drug cartels = Most cowardly pussies on Earth.

I support life sentence with no parole simply for anyone who belongs to them.

i agree with most of what you said.the show was inaccurate.i lived in the villa in the early 80's.i never saw no hoovers in orange,i saw cvc(columbia villa crips).the first supposed gang related murder happened in front of my moms apartment.my mom had to paint my red bike with a red bandanna tied to the handlebars because it was an all crip neighborhood.i was 7 and had moved from se portland which was fucked up.i witnessed shootings, stabbings, and little things like people smoking crack in the laundry room.my mom paid 80 a month to house us there.after being broke into so many times we moved.we were one of 2 white families in that neighborhood.i remember days at the rec center across the street, and one easter my friend andres cousin who was a blood was chased by a bunch of crips.he banged on the door, and my friends mom opened and shut it quickly.i watched my friends cousin get stabbed to death, while i watched from the rec across the street.this was a few things in 4 months living there when i was 7.this shit happened everywhere i lived in portland my whole life, even in washington county where my mom moved us to get away from the portland crime.im 30 now,and all the city has done was move all the poor from north and northeast,to se which already had its problems.i guess im tired of all the people who do not know how things are here.i grew up in every part of this city, and all parts have bad drug problems, and crime.the city of portland covers up there crime rate to make this a desirable place to live.

There were the Columbia Villa Crips in the 90s right?

edit: derr...post before mine.

i remember the vietnamese gangs used to cruise around 82nd in their honda civic hatchbacks.

Yeah, out in the burbs its like so distant...I never even went to North Portland except when I had to deliver food for our school's christmas food drive...it was pretty trippy seeing projects out there.

hah, i remember in high school, me and my friends thought we were hardcore because we would go to Popeye's at night on the eastside and buy mix CDs at Dana Dane's music galore. such a closed little world.

Portland history is always pretty fucking interesting though...the McLoughlin House, pittock mansion.......always was interested in it, sparked by the Rose festival medallion contest where we had to do research on shit when we searched for it.
