...new year, same crap. Standing there with the bat on his shoulders and watching a called 3rd strike go by.

The exact reason he's not a leadoff guy.

Saw that, damn near threw something through the TV. Yankees looking like chumps today!

At least when he gets on base he doesn't sit there and watch a ton of pitches before he breaks for second…oh wait, yeah, he does that too.

Maybe, if I keep telling myself during this
season, "It's only spring training"......
Nah. That won't work! But, I'll be numb.
Not a bad residual to watching a bad team.

...lol...true. He has not been on base much this spring but I don't he's even attempted to steal a base, has he?

...hate to say it, but I think the Yanx and Rays will battle for last place...hope I'm wrong.

Gardner is a glorified fourth outfielder.

You remember Francisco Cervelli.
He's having a great spring. Wish him
well this season. He is still pumping
his fist. Miss that energy.

...Cervelli was cheap and a much better option than the young Yankee backup catchers have illustrated so far. Now Cisco will finally get to play pretty much every day...and I would think that would help him even more.

But, but, but...................................he's our next captain.

I don't dislike Gardner. He's just terribly overrated because of this alleged hard nosed reputation.

I know its only ST but 5-38 (131 BA) so far is just ridiculous.

Hey come on guys, Gardner at least has a plan.

And his plan is........first, get to first base;
second, know how to read a pitcher; third,
try to hit doubles.
He still has not figured step two.......after
7 years in the league. Yes, very much over-
rated.

...Gardner on base the first 2 times up and swipes 2B both times, and early in the count. ...wtf?

Yeah. Wait til the games count.

Saw an interview during tonights game vs Det with Meredith and Gardner.
Gardy was 1-2, 1BB with 2 SB.
First thing he brought up was "I was able to get on base".
Then later on regarding his 2 SB ..."you know, the more you run, the more banged up you get".
No doubt, I do agree he could/should be more agressive with his SB atts, but maybe, possibility, this could also be a case of -
....be careful what you wish for?
(getting "banged up").

Just how many SBs do "we" expect from this guy? 30? 40? 50?
I don't know...pick a number. :
But I do believe (imho), first and foremost, he must improve on last year's .327 OBP and cut down on his Ks, he had 134 last year.
Putting the ball in play more often kinda raises your chances of getting on base, lol.

If he does those things, Everything else will take care of itself.
He should have better overrall offensive numbers AND he'll have his "good" SB totals even if he isn't very aggressive.

Last year he hit a surprising 17 HRs but batted below.260 with a disappointing OBP and 134 Ks.
Did he become too HR happy instead of trying to make more contact and getting his ass on base more often?
I'll gladly exchange a couple/few less HRs from Gardner in favor of raising his BA and OBP 20(?) points higher.

He will never improve if he insists on watching good pitches go by every ab. He's constantly at two strikes which obviously hurts him.

Over his last 4 full seasons if my math is right after eliminating HRs, doubles & triples & counting only the times he made it to 1st base (singles & walks)

2010 attempted a SB 31.1% of the time
2011 attempted a SB 39.8% of the time
2013 attempted a SB 21.2% of the time
2014 attempted a SB 17.4% of the time.

Note: please don't mention OBP because these #s have nothing to do with that, Gardner for some reason is just not attempting a SB as much as he use to.

...yup, brought this up a few times.

...You wanna really blow your mind?...go check out his career split stats with 2 strikes on him and then look at his stats on first pitch swinging.

...yeah, he draws a few walks but he also throws aways a lot of ABs by standing watching the 3rd strike go by.

ESPN Magazine's dismal forecast for the Yanx this year, 81-81

We all have higher hopes than this.....

I'd guess 86 Wins, 76 Losses......

Doesn't look promising at all......!

I really don't see them exceeding last years win total.
