Gary Trent extension

We aren't going to spend a bunch of money to have Dame/CJ/Trent/Simons. Someone has to go.

Right now I'd say it has to be CJ. He's older, he's a one way player, and he's making a boatload of cash.
Neil has to have something up his sleeve.

Sure. But if weather mattered Pepperdine and the Clippers have no excuse for over two decades
My granddaughter has been offered scholarship there. Think she's going elsewhere though.

CJ is 6th in the NBA in PER. His starting job is safe.
"unless he proves himself better when he comes back." I was thinking long term salary along with that. If Neil had an offer to trade that helps the team, he would possibly consider that. Stats are not what encompass the entire decision.
So many guys in here want him traded. I was seeing a perspective most money managers would contemplate.

That's ridiculous. He was playing at an All NBA level when he went down. He's world's better than Trent and Simons and is critical to us contending.

Right we are winning without CJ with Trent in his place. You throw stats aside you got to look at does this team plays as a team on both sides the ball with Trent or CJ. Right now there playing as a team on both ends let's see if that changes when CJ comes back.

I can't wait to watch CJ go 1 on 5 when he comes back.

They were winning with CJ as wel.
The crazy part is that we are playing exactly as well without CJ, if you're just looking at wins and losses and if you give CJ credit for the win we got in the game where he went down. After the game he was injured in and didn't finish, we were 8-5. Now we're 16-10. You can try to get into strength of schedule or whatever argumentative bullshit you want to throw at those numbers but it's crazy that with our second and third best players out, our record has been just as good.

It's because Olshey has stacked this team with so much talent.

So if you have so much talent that your second and third best players are basically obsolete then why wouldn't you turn those two player or some of the other stacked talent into a better second option or at least one that fits better or a better fitting second and third option. As "stacked" as we are, I don't think anyone in here believes that we have a championship team with everyone on this roster healthy. Olshey seems to though and that's a problem.

Edit: If you were being ironic, I apologize for this post.

I think you have to give Gary Trent starting SF money and commit to small ball with RoCo at the 4. GTJ is that good of a shooter & a plenty capable perimeter defender. I wouldn't let him go. this team is doing good as a functioning 3 ball centric team.. why break that a part? you have a decent mixture of guys who can defend.(RoCo, Derrick Jones Jr, Collins, Nurk) we can manage with that so the strength of this team can be fully focused on. it'll benifit us in the long run.

KEEP G-Tizzy!

I can see that happening unless he forces a sign and trade which he sure could.

How do you figure? When was the last time you saw a player who hadn't made an all-star team force a trade? All-stars have the clout to do that but not role players. Also if we were starting him why would he.

you dont think its possible that Trent through Clutch could request and sign and trade? Like I mention din my post, I can see him resigning here and being OK with whatever role., but its not out of the realm of possibility he could request a change.

I don't think he'll force a trade but I think if he isn't taken seriously enough as a starter in Portland come contract time then he will wind up exploring his options as a starter somewhere else & he definitely will have his pick of a few starting jobs. if I'm Olshay I'm looking at a good number for him right now.

Requesting, yes but I don't think he'd have a lot of leverage is what I'm saying plus I don't really want to see him at SF.

You mean his next contract after the one he signs this off season right? Since he is a RFA.

I look at him more of a 2 guard than a 3. But if CJ ends up staying I see Clutch finding a new home for him where he can start.

so would you rather see him or CJ at the 2 because both are starters in this league, CJ being the more solidified option. I guess the question becomes do you invest in Trent's ceiling as a player or choose CJ's offense.

Gary and it's not even close. He plays the roll better and makes up for Dames poor defense instead of dragging it further down like CJ does. I'm not saying that Gary is the better talent because CJ is one of the best bucket getters in the league and is a really good distributor when he's not worried about getting his because Dame so often is controlling the offense. Gary's just the better fit.

Clutch is just an agency. They can say whatever they want but we make the decisions for Gary for now. He's a RFA with bird rights.

Oh if we're completely healthy I absolutely think we're capable of winning the championship.

Nah, that Dame/CJ back court along with Nurk's mobility makes our perimeter D the weakest in the league. We can't win a chip with that going on even if Dame and CJ play complementary ball on offense which is a stretch given what we've seen over the years.

I realize that but isnt that also how we could get something for him if for whatever reason? Sign & Trades are done all the time it seems.
