Gary and it's not even close. He plays the roll better and makes up for Dames poor defense instead of dragging it further down like CJ does. I'm not saying that Gary is the better talent because CJ is one of the best bucket getters in the league and is a really good distributor when he's not worried about getting his because Dame so often is controlling the offense. Gary's just the better fit.

exactly how I feel about the situation. we've already seen the defenseless Dame/CJ duo not work time and time again, they might as well try something else. but I doubt dame ever signs off on a move that send CJ somewhere else

Nah, that Dame/CJ back court along with Nurk's mobility makes our perimeter D the weakest in the league. We can't win a chip with that going on even if Dame and CJ play complementary ball on offense which is a stretch given what we've seen over the years.

I completely disagree. Our defense has improved as the guys are getting comfortable with the new schemes. Dame and CJ are the best backcourt in the NBA. Their combined offense more than offsets any deficiencies they have on defense. RoCo and DJ Jr were brought in to improve the D and they're doing their job well now.

just for conversations sake lets say it works out that way.. you can't keep both players in the long run so picking between the two is inevitable. I'd take Trent's two way play & cheaper contract in a heart beat. CJ is virtually useless when his shots aren't falling. having two 6'3 guards who cannot guard is a recipe for disaster in the playoffs.

at least Gary Trent can defend and shoot the 3 really well. I feel just as comfortable with the shot going in when GTJ is shooting as Dame.

I think having only one player on the entire roster who can consistently and reliably get their own shot is a bigger recipe for disaster, personally.

just for conversations sake lets say it works out that way.. you can't keep both players in the long run so picking between the two is inevitable. You absolutely can keep both of them. It's just a matter of whether you want to spend the money or not.

To be honest the fact that we are talking about replacing a borderline all star with another player on the roster is a great thing. As a Gm this has got to be what you hope for every time you draft a player. To me the decision comes down to keeping 3 of the 4. Trent has showed all around good player probably not all star level, CJ borderline all star but week on defense, Simons explosive with incredible potential. It’s going to be tough choice

Keep Trent. He’s playing so well, for a consistent amount of time that he’s proven himself. Make him a starter and he might flourish even more. Get some great value for CJ and move Covington or DJJ with him and the roster could be even better.

I'm not saying you have to trade CJ in order to go further defensively in the playoffs, and you absolutely can keep both and commit to small ball offense with GTJ at the 3, all I'm saying is that the proof is in the pudding on how real the back court defense falls come playoff time.

I like the two defensive adds of Covington and DJ. We’ve needed guys like that for a long time and really don’t think we’ll see there best until playoffs when defense wins games.
