The post above by AEM just shows that you WERE wrong. Do you not understand that the right he exercised was a CONTRACTUAL RIGHT, negotiated and appearing in actual ink somewhere on a document with his signature?

^ Laughing my ass off. About Netsfan's post.

LOL Najera's face sums up my reaction to the news, too!

You aren't understanding all of the information. George does not have this as a contractual right (i.e. a negotiated no trade clause)

Reread what was said in the link you posted. Here is the important part

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>If he does agree to be traded he then loses his early Bird rights</div>

Now read all of #85 http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#85

The only time a player can lose their early Bird rights is in the part I first quoted. If George had a negotiated no trade clause, there would be no fear of losing his early Bird rights.

Well you are making sense here (nice change). But I thought it was reported that George was in the last year of an expiring contract, which implied to me it was not a one year contract that would bring that clause into play.

It does explain, however, why the management of both teams might have been so apparently oblivious to the chances of this happening. If it was negotiated, it would be pretty humiliatingly negligent for the Mavs ownership not to know it.

they kept saying during the game "It's not completely official yet" during the game, and I started thinking about what it would be like if it ended up falling apart. Didn't think it'd get this close to actually happening.

Keep Kidd, Trade for Miller.
Let the Mavericks get booted out the first round...
AGAIN.

</div>

I'm actually trying to think of a witty comment towards Jeff Schwartz, who may have inadvertantly completely fucked Jason Kidd by pretty much demanding that Kidd get dealt to Dallas. How does he change his stance without completely losing whatever credibility he has left? What is his stance?

Essentially, George's agent was smart. George had a player option for this season, but declined it. He then resigned with the Mavs for 1 year. Either way he would have had early bird rights this summer, but by doing this, he got the CBA provided right to refuse a trade.

Dallas and New Jersey is letting a guy who is currently 0/11 from the field, 0/4 from 3pt and 0/2 from the line stop the deal. Good God.

ooo ooo ooo....Karmaaaa

Good God, if this trade does not go down by the trade deadline, I can't wait for Mar. 8th when the Nets play the Mavs again. Jason Kidd is going to flagrant foul George so badly it'll make TJ Ford's injury look like TJ was just going for a joyride on a stretcher.

maybe George was thinking about the circumstances of this trade. Maybe he thought to himself: "I'm being traded because this guy DEMANDED a trade and he DEMANDED he wants to play for the Mavs. And then his scumback agent threatens the Nets by saying he won't get his clients to make deals there? F that! "
