From the comfort of a practice court folding chair, Portland big man Marcus Camby challenges 6-foot-3 rookie Armon Johnson to do a windmill dunk. Johnson does, and it's pretty good. With Camby goading him, Wallace takes a turn. His windmill dunk is better.
Wallace appears to be one of the guys. Because Portland doesn't need a star, his role is to play defense, rebound, hustle relentlessly and be a standup guy.
"We ask Gerald to be Gerald," Branch says.
Wallace says he loves his new team's "Win, win, win" attitude.
I ask if the Bobcats share the philosophy.
"They did when I was here," he says.
