Gerald Wallace!!!

Broussard was on ESPN saying the Blazers were talking to the Cats about Wallace all night.

It's not, really. Rudy was a headache in August and now you've let that headache possibly determine the outcome of a deal.

And if you didn't have him, you still couldn't do the deal.

It doesn't matter if the other team values Rudy and the Blazers have him because in the end they won't end up trading for him if he threatens to just leave for Europe/ask for a buyout and become a headache for them.

But the Blazers can still play him. His value on the court is better than trading him for nothing back in the summer.

That just goes without saying.

It doesn't, actually. It needed to be said in order for me to point out why that was a bad argument. :)

The argument can be made Rudy's value is even lower now with him saying he'll just ask for a buyout. Letting it get to that point is a shame.

It would be a remarkably weak argument, since the Blazers still get value from Rudy by playing him. Dumping him at the bottom of his value would have meant zero value. No on-court value, no getting-Gerald-Wallace value.

If the trade isn't completed because the Bobcats don't want to deal with Rudy, that's on Cho, period.

You can keep repeating it as much as you want but considering you can't support it with logic, it's not a very damning accusation.

His PER dropped from 18 (previous two seasons) to 15 this year.

His DRtg dropped from 101 (previous two seasons) to 105 this year.

His TS% dropped from 59% (previous two seasons) to 53% this year.

Maybe it's an off year but at age 28 it's a pattern I'm not comfortable with.

Hmm I guess we will see. I either expect that by the time I wake up tomorrow the deal is either confirmed dead or we do end up getting Wallace, but not until the trade deadline is near over.

I'd still take him as he could be of great service to a playoff team like the Blazers. Even though there's been a dip in his stats, he'd be more reliable than Joel Przybilla.

One thing I like is he still seems like a beast of a rebounder for his position, that is something we could use especially when Camby is out.

He's not the player he was, but our package isn't what it would have been two years ago, either. He can still be quite useful. He's Corey Maggette who plays defense and can rebound.

The thing is, it's hard to trade for an all-star talent when they're having a great year. Guys who are as good as Wallace, whom are having off years, are EXACTLY whom we should be targeting with our expiring contracts. Guys have off years. It happens. Buy low, sell high.

Oh well......

I'm disappointed, but I suppose there is no sense in getting upset. I have been saying for weeks that Cho is likely under orders to sit on his hands until the CBA issues are resolved. :sigh:

Bobcats keeping Wallace?

The Portland Trail Blazers made an unsuccessful push to acquire Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Blazers ended their pursuit of Wallace after the Bobcats pulled back in talks. Bobcats owner Michael Jordan may have had “cold feet” about dealing Wallace, one source said.

Wallace has two years and $22 million left on his contract.

I guarantee his last word will make more sense than most of what you have posted tonight... your logic is just silly, but it seems that is only apparent to everyone other than you.

Sometimes with posters like RoyToy and MediocreMan, you just need to let them think they're right. They get so wrapped up in the agenda they have towards a player/coach/executive that it warps their logic.

:biglaugh:

Kind of a sad reality, but it is what it is.

....and only 2 years left on his deal.

One thing that a smart person brought up to keep in mind about the Charlotte talks is that Larry miller and MJ are really close.

Ric Bucher was apparently on ESPN's First Take saying Oden for Wallace was on the table.

That was a misleading title. Check out the article. http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/02/24/blazers-deciding-to-pull-back/

It's "pull back" from possibly rebuilding.

A six-game winning streak before the All-Star break may have changed the Portland Trail Blazers from sellers to buyers before Thursday’s trade deadline.

Several league sources say that Portland has changed its mind about trading most of, if not all, of its veteran big men for youth before the deadline. The Blazers had informed teams around the league that they would likely be tearing down their roster after hearing the severity of guard Brandon Roy’s knee maladies, and after losing center Greg Oden for yet another season due to a knee injury.

Teams believed the Blazers would definitely trade point guard Andre Miller before the deadline, and perhaps move both Marcus Camby and Joel Przybilla as well.

But the inspired play of forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who took on a bigger scoring burden with Roy out, and the team’s rally before the break have the Blazers now thinking they could not only maintain their fifth-place standing in the Western Conference, but perhaps get a spot higher with a couple of targeted trades. Portland is looking for a backup point guard and a scoring big man to play in the rotation behind Aldridge–and perhaps alongside Aldridge when he plays center. That would likely explain Portland’s interest in Charlotte forward Gerald Wallace, as reported by multiple outlets Wednesday. But getting Wallace, who makes $9.5 million this season in Charlotte, would have to include at least one of Portland’s veterans to make the deal work–though the Blazers do have Oden’s $6.7 million salary as a potential chip to use.

Blazers like Gerald Wallace, but Bobcats want a better package than what Portland has offered. If one side caves, this could still get done

Sounds like the talks are ongoing...

This may be for the best. Especially if BROY can give us minutes. Joel moved better last night and I think his 12-15 minutes can be helpful. Wes can play enough SF (6.5" 220 vs 6.7 215) to give some minutes to Roy and Rudy at the 2.

Wallace would have been nice though, but 22 million is a lot for him.

I would really hate to lose Matthews or Batum since I value their games so much and they have excellent contracts. However, Pryzbilla, Fernandez, Babbitt...there are definitely some pieces that I'd be willing to give up along with picks to get Wallace.

Let's not forget, even though Charlotte has new ownership, Jordan isn't the richest guy in the league and the way that franchise has been run from the beginning puts an emphasis on cost control.
