nate Fired!

This "basketball person" is the same one who misused Sergio and Rudy, causing their values to plummet and be traded for nothing. Considering you only watch basketball to be entertained, I thought you'd be thrilled to see the king of ISO be sent away.

Other than entertainment, why else would you watch basketball?

To fire a coach while retaining mutinous players is about as weak as any owner can get, and proves the inmates are running the asylum here. This team just went from being a poor mishmash of non-complimentary players to being a bad joke.

This is what you do when you want to sell a team.

No GM under contract

Fire the coach

Trade away vets and gather up as much cap space as you can

keep key players

aquire picks

Thank you Paul Allen, it has been a fun ride

Good the final piece to the nightmare and the curse of the Trailblazers will be when PA takes his Seattle ass back home! He's just as much to blame as anyone else!

That is a good point. A new owner could come in and immediately put his mark on the team. Interesting angle.

Haven't you noticed that Maris always plays devils advocate to everything? He's a troll. He even admits it in his own signature.

"Disclaimer: The opinions expressed here are the views of MARIS61, a fictional message board character created for my amusement, and do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of any real person alive or deceased."

No trolling here, ever.

The disclaimer is simply to discourage the wave of baseless lawsuits that inevitably turn up whenever I post the truth about this team, which is a daily occurence.

Glad to see Nate go. Kind of disappointed we went with a no-name instead of D'Antoni who is available.

Nate's a good coach, and I think he'll get another job.

He actually is a good PG coach, aside for the train wreck of Felton. Ridnour, Blake and Telfair all played their best hoops under him. Jack improved after moving to 3 different teams, so you can't really say it was Nate holding him back--just maturity. You can't blame Nate that these guys had little talent. He did the most with what he could. I think it'd have been really interesting to see him coach Johnny Flynn, but oh well.

I'm not as giddy as many here are over the changes. I'm too depressed at the failure of the season to date to be excited about tanking. Maybe once we have those (hopefully) 2 top 10 picks I'll feel better about all this. But then Flynn and Thabeet were once top 10 picks too before being traded for our castoffs, so how excited can you get.....

If you want to save money you don't fire the coach while he has over a year left on his contract.

Not about the money on Nates contract that ends this year, its about being able to put your own guys in place with as much easse as possiable;

Joe Freeman: Texted an assistant coach 15 minutes ago about McMillan's firing and his response was: "News to me."

Is that a nice way to tell you to piss off? I mean Freeman is a bit lost here at best.

This really sucks. Nate is a good coach. The players just ignored him. I doubt we can find anyone better

Nate is not a great coach! His defense is a joke, he can't draw up a play, has awful substitutions and our offense has yet to be understood for the last 7 years. How is that a good coach? He's had a ton of different players with the same results, average at best to crappy! That's coaching!

FUCK YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Long time coming and something that should have happened years ago.

The team still has some fixing to do, but this really does steer the ship towards the right direction.
Now to get a GM to man the rudder!

Nate's statement

TRAIL BLAZERS PART WAYS WITH NATE MCMILLAN
Kaleb Canales named Interim Head Coach

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Trail Blazers have made the decision to part ways with Nate McMillan, it was announced today by Team President Larry Miller. McMillan will no longer serve as Portland's head coach. Assistant Coach Kaleb Canales has been named interim head coach.

"Clearly the season to this point has not gone the way we had hoped it would and after talking with Nate we decided it was best to part ways," said Miller. "I want to personally acknowledge and thank Nate for his many contributions to this franchise and wish him nothing but the best for the future."

In six-plus seasons with Portland from 2005-12, McMillan guided the Trail Blazers to a 266-269 (.497) mark. Portland's second-longest tenured head coach in team history, McMillan ranks third among all-time Trail Blazers head coaches with 266 wins, trailing only Jack Ramsay and Rick Adelman.

McMillan led the Trail Blazers to the postseason in each of the last three seasons (2009-11), marking Portland's first run of three consecutive playoff appearances since 2001-03. The Trail Blazers shared the Northwest Division crown with Denver in 2008-09 after posting a 54-28 record, McMillan's best as a coach.

After taking over as Trail Blazers head coach in 2005, McMillan became just the second coach in NBA history to improve a team by nine wins or more in three straight seasons when Portland increased its win total by 33 games between 2005-06 and 2008-09.

McMillan is one of only two Portland coaches to be named Western Conference Coach of the Month three times (Adelman). He earned the honor in December 2007, April 2009 and April 2011.

Uh oh..... who's going to star in the Sherwin Williams commercial with Nate and the two Mikes??? Think Canales' studio apartment would work???

hahahaha Yeah think of all the PR stuff they have to refilm!

Nate McMillan walks into a bar
The bartender says, "hey I saw the news, what happened?
Nate says, "well I am going to tell you the same thing I told the players, I just need you to make some shots"

While I agree with this, the players had tuned him out and quit on him. He didn't deserve that as he's a good person and a good coach. But there are times when a team has to change directions. This was the time to do so.

Come on guys....3 pages only? Weaaaaaaak

I am just relieved the death watch is over. With all the talk about going after Blake or Ridnour, I was convinced the team was going to drag this out for who knows how long!

The fact that Nate is the second longest tenured coach in our history is just plain sad.

Been out for a while. Anybody made an Ides of March crack about Nate yet? Seems appropriate.

I think the fact we have BY FAR more 1 and done seasons then anyone else in the league says a lot to the reason why we go through so many coach's.

I heard Chip Kelly wants to go pro.... let's make him an offer!
