I will make no bones about it. I want these guys gone or dead.

Bullshit.

You don't even know who "these guys" are.

You've never met any of them, never seen them do anything evil. Our government doesn't even have any evidence that they've done anything to be imprisoned for. Just bagged them on the right place wrong time theory. "These guys" are no different than the children Mengele experimented on, and our "military intelligence" is no different than Mengele himself.

Some of them really are enemy combatants or would be considered POWs. That's a bit different than innocent children taken from their homes & sent to concentration camps where they were experimented on.

Glad you're all too happy to use the Geneva Convetion as toilet paper.

The Geneva Convention doesn't apply to soldiers not sanctioned by a recognized nation and not in uniform.

Glad to see you're ignorant as to what the Geneva Convention actually addresses.

Ok, you never said "bad guys", but your argument parrells Demo party lines, and has the feel of the same shit I have read and heard from the left.

Does it? What argument, that we shouldn't act like the Taliban?

I will make no bones about it. I want these guys gone or dead. If their own countries will not put them on trial and convict them, then we should execute anyone who we may again meet on the field of battle or have any fear that they may continue on their ways of terror.

Who makes that decision? Who's fear? What qualifies as a "way of terror?" Have you thought about this at all, or are you just spouting whatever comes to mind first?

This is a war. We should prosecute it as such. We had the balls to fire bomb Germany in WW2 to make sure that they would not want to start a new war. We dropped the atom bomb on Japan and they lost their will to wage war.

Yeah, let's nuke northwest Pakistan. That sounds like a solid plan, guy.

We need to have the same determination now that we had then. The mindset of limited war has been tryed and has failed, see VN, Look at what a mess we now have on our hands. We can not try and win their minds, we must break their will.

The mindset of limited war has failed? Just nuke em all then? One has to appreciate your GET R DUN attitude towards foreign relations.

Sounds more like you want genocide than proper prosecution of enemy combatants or war criminals.

So when should we drop the bomb on Iraq & Afghanistan? I am sure everyone in those countries is guilty of crimes against our freedoms. Unless they're not...

Convert by the sword & rule with an iron fist. Smells like freedom.

I'm interested in your idea that these are armed forces. They don't wear uniforms, they hide behind women and children and they don't adhere to the Geneva Convention in their treatment of captured soldiers themselves.

The US has no proof they are anything other than innocent civilians who were illegally detained and imprisoned by our military in the course of executing illegal invasions of 3 sovereign countries.

The actions related to GITMO are barbaric and ignorant, and will go down in history alongside the Salem witch trials and the McCarthy hearings as our country's most embarrassing periods.

Prove it.

While that may be true, it has nothing to do with the Geneva Convention, and how it applies to the "innocent civilians" the big bad USA ripped from their white picket fenced homes.

This is the pink sky syndrome

Someone decides that they need to divert attention to or form a subject.

So they declare that the sky should be pink, and the problem is X groups fault, and it is important that it be taken care of. At first no picks up on it, but over time it gains momentum, as causes need it is picked up. As in any oft repeated lie, it becomes accepted as truth.

Then the senate and congress get involved, there are hearings, studies, funding for more studies. And this takes on a life of its own. It becomes an industry unto itself. The media loves the cause. Celebs do benefits, concerts.

The mindless masses flock to the fold, bleating the word of the leaders....

And the few sane people that understand, say "hey, guys, ahh, the sky has many colors, always has, like blue, red, orange, gray.."

The masses proclaim them to be the nutters..

what do you think? We picked these guys up at the local WalMart?

No, but it sounds like you do. Unfortunately, the guys we pick up and send to Gitmo aren't clearly labeled and don't come with instructions on what to do with them. It's an ambiguous problem. Turns out that finding a solution to an ambiguous problem requires thinking critically, which is like, totally gay. So yeah, I can understand your nuke 'em all attitude.

Fantastic post. It is nice to be able to see why most of these guys were picked up, and what the disposition is for many
