I feel the same way about 'Trout'. Obnoxious.

Careful there, lest you incur the wrath of those who approve of annoying nicknames and frown on those who choose to ignore them!

question- how does one get promoted from "part of the rotation" to the "first team"?

I've always thought Martell was more like Michael Finley than Glen Rice or Dale Ellis.

Really? Wow, I never thought EVERYONE would care so strongly who I have on my ignore list.

I guess I just don't get what the big deal is that prompted all his chest thumping and profanity.

I nicely (I even said Please) asked the OP not to call Martell, "Tell". He refused and told me to deal with it. I dealt with it in the manner of my choosing by putting him on ignore. Last I checked, I still had that right. As far as I'm concerned the issue was resolved at that point. He can call Martell "Tell" and I can ignore him. End of story.

No one is debating whether or not you have the right, they are simply pointing out that putting someone on ignore because they called Martell Webster "Tell" is something a bitch on her period would do.

Finley is a perfect comparison and I have no idea what all the rest of you tools are arguing about cause I have you all on "IGNORE"!

I didn't put anyone on ignore for calling Martell "Tell" (even though I think it's quite possibly the stupidest nickname I have ever heard). I only put him on ignore after I politely asked him not to do so and he told me to "deal with it". My way of dealing with people I find annoying is to ignore them.

Other people choose to bitch and moan about posters they find annoying - while they continue to read their threads and respond to them - all while complaining about how stupid and annoying they are.

If ignoring someone I find annoying makes me a "bitch on her period", what's that make all the people constantly bitching about certain other posters? Wouldn't it make the forum a better place if they simply ignored those posters rather than constantly encouraging their behavior by giving them the attention they so desperately crave?

I have no idea. I just post here. I don't know if it's based on total post count, reputation or if you're sleeping with one of the mods.

P.S. If it's the latter, I recommend "THE" HCP. He's one randy bastard. He'll do anyone, anywhere, any time.

Firstly, I apologize for my last remark that was kind of a personal attack.

Secondly, I don't really get your reasoning. He called him "Tell", you asked him not to, he denied your request, so you ignored him. That really seems to me that you are in fact ignoring because he refused to stop saying "Tell". In other words, you ignored him because he says "Tell". Right?

No problem. It happens.

Nope, I ignored him for his "deal with it" response. I asked him nicely. I wasn't disrespectful about it. I didn't even say I thought it was the dumbest nickname I've ever heard (it is, but I didn't say it at the time). He told me to deal with it and I did.

I didn't intend for it to become a huge deal with personal attacks, profanity laced posts and insults. I have other posters who annoy me on ignore and nobody seems to care. I personally find it makes the forum more readable and more enjoyable. I'm not sure why that makes me a bad guy, but I guess it does. Oh well.

Oh, I see. I didn't even realize that you took "deal with it" as disrespectful. That makes a lot more sense.

I don't ignore anybody, and I don't think I ever will. I'm a very curious person and I would not be able to handle not knowing the full extent of a conversation. I do wish, however, that some posters would apply your policy of ignoring also. I could do without the unnecessary personal attacks that cause the discussion to suffer. Anyways, to each his own.

I think Trout's kind of funny, but "Catfish" is better.

My personal list of other stupid nicknames / abbreviations:
"Tell" - Please don't let this catch on...
"Blankey" / "Blakie"
"'Zers"
"The 'Couv"

Sweet Nicknames:
"BRoy"
"The Natural"
"Snake" (Pendergraph)...totally reminds me of Snake Blisken from Escape From Ney York when I hear it...

Ignore has a great feature where you can view an individual post without taking someone off ignore. That way when there's the rare Mixum post that seems to generate intelligent discussion you can go ahead and view it...

Glen Rice is much more of a gunner/offensive minded player. He is also a terrible defender.

I say a poor man's Ray Allen, but more physical...so yeah, maybe Dale Ellis...which would be AWESOME if he turned out like that.

You're crazy! The Couv is awesome!

Kinda like how we call Troutdale, TroutTucky!

Finley works for me as a comparison, and I'd be very, very happy to see him have a Finley-like career.

Maybe not so happy that I can forgive passing on Chris Paul, but still pretty happy.

Trout is good. Tell is kind of weak.....

I used to call him M3 when he wore #3.....I just call him Webs.

I've heard some people call him "The Definition". That's much worse than 'Tell.

I agree, right now he seems more Finley-like with the potential to be a Dale Ellis type. That would be fantastic. I lived in the Seattle area for a year and a half back in the late 80s when Chambers, McDaniel and Ellis became the first threesome in NBA history to average > 23 PPG in the same season. I never was a Sonics fans, but I have to admit those teams were fun to watch. Makes me feel bad for the people of Seattle now that OKC has also become an exciting team to watch.

Martell is a better rebounder, but worse passer than Dale Ellis. During his prime (late 20s), Dale Ellis strung togther four consecutive 19+ PER seasons with insanely good true shooting and effective shooting percentages - often as a third option on offense. If we could get anything close to that from Martell, it would be amazing. Like Martell, Ellis was a late bloomer - a VERY late bloomer, in fact. He was older as a rookie than Martell is right now. His PERs his first three seasons were 9.8, 9.8 and 12.8. Then in his 4th season, at the age of 26, he had a breakout season. His PER jumped 4.5 points to 17.3 and he won the NBA's Most Improved Player award. I can see Martell's career follwing a similar arc, but starting younger and with the one year interuption due to the foot injury. If he ever does match Dale Ellis' offensive production the rest of the league is in trouble. To get that kind of production from Webster, combined with Roy and Oden, would make the Blazers scary good - and that doesn't even include Aldridge, Bayless, Batum, etc.

"BLANKY" is a great nickname (but only when done in all-caps).
