Because that's the whole point. If someone broke I my house, I wouldn't think they deserved to be murdered.

hmm. There have been several points in this thread though and you said locking your door would be out of fear. I'm commenting on that point. Not whether the robber deserves to die or not.

But, we can go there. Does he deserve to die for breaking an entering? No.

The moment, I say, what are you doing in my house, get out, and he doesn't start doing exactly that, he may not still deserve to die, but he then made a choice with his life in hands.

Listen, he is there for evil intent. Lets not make it like he is a saint and in no way would he try to harm the victim in order to get away. So in that reasoning, are you just going to let harm befall you or are you going to shoot first and then ask why he didn't comply later?
If I happen to kill in while trying to stop him, then I wouldn't feel guilty about it. He made a CHOICE not to get out and forced me to make a choice to defend myself.

I don't know many people who would just lay down and be the victim just because they don't think the life should be taken. Especially when they know there is a chance it could be your life taken in return if you lay down.

I think you are using this as an extreme example to justify your stance on gun ownership, when I feel this is a perfect example of why we should be able to own guns after proper verification have been met.

With that said. I don't own a gun. But if I did, or decide to. It wont be out of fear. It will be out of not wanting to have my life put in another persons hands.

So, If someone broke into your house and you were sleeping and you woke up and they didn't leave, and they have a weapon, you would still consider it murder if the home owner shot first?

Read the thread. I never once said locking your door is out of fear.

You're being silly now.

NOBODY leaves their doors unlocked in Portland.

Never mind your possessions, you have a son.

I sure hope you've got a better plan B than you're letting on because violent crime isn't exactly decreasing in Portland.

I don't live my life in fear of what could happen. Plain and simple.

Read the thread. I never once said locking your door is out of fear.

Read above...

Maris said nobody leaves their door unlocked and you said you dont live your life in fear.

What else is that saying if it isn't saying that locking your door is out of fear???

What if, what if, what if....

I had a drunk guy come in my Wilsonville apartment and fall asleep... He's still alive...

People don't always have ill intent and even if the guy has a gun, it doesn't mean I will die or that he will use it. Possessions aren't worth protecting with my life, nor are they worth taking another's.

My statement was about the whole topic of killing someone over possessions.

oh man you are being so unreasonable right now. 99% of break ins are of ill intent. Yes there is an anomaly every now and then... drunk guy breaks into wrong apartment thinking it is his own, but lets be real okay?

The odds are much greater that a man breaking an entering with a weapon is going to use it if he needs to, vs not use it.

You seem to think its about possessions and i'm saying its about safety and the fact you don't know what the man is capable of and to assume he doesn't have ill intent after already breaking an entry is just plain stupid.

But you quoted his statement and commented on the fear. so it was about locking doors unless you meant to quote another statement.

I understand. But I'm telling you now what I meant so what's the issue?

And I don't have issues with you D. I'm just like you in many ways. Try to say it like I see it is all.

Look, protect yourself from physical harm. No one is arguing against that. What I'm saying is my possessions aren't worth me killing someone, nor are they worth being killed over.

But you are saying this like there are time outs that can be called in the situation.

TIME OUT.
Okay., You broke in. Are you meaning me harm, or just hungry and looking to raid the fridge and take cash?

It doesn't work like that. If you are in the home and someone breaks in, I GURANTEE you are goign to have an incredible adrenaline rush and things will happen very quickly.

The first thing that will always go through my mind when someone breaks into my home, regardless of their intent, which will never be known, is my families safety, and if the perp shows ANY sign or hint of being a threat, he is going before my family does.

When someone breaks in, you don't have the opportunity to question, like in a courthouse. Of course he may not deserve to die, but he made that choice of taking a chance when be broke an entry and thats what this story is about.

fuck that, he already hinted at harm by breaking in. This really is pretty black and white. Who has time to figure out intent? HE ALREADY BROKE IN!

Right.

1. I refuse to own a gun. (I just never will)
2. Someone breaks in my house.
3. They take whatever the fuck they want (Hell, I'll help them load it up).
4. I survive.
5. I don't kill anyone.
6. I file a police report and get all my shit back from insurance.

Most importantly:

7. No one dies.

1...me either
3...most likely
4...you hope
5...if they have a gun you'll have to get the jump on them to be able to if need be
7...again you hope not. You don't always get the choice

Of course, you can never be sure of the intent of anyone walking on the street, either. Or what about your boss? S/he might have evil intent. The local pastor? He's got a lot of time on his hands, probably up to no good.

Best to just kill them all.

Apples to oranges. The man walking down the street didnt already commit a crime....

Man how could you even compare?????
The guy in your home has already shown a disregard for the law and your property!!!
What the fuck are we even arguing here. Nothing because this statement of yours holds no ground whatsoever barfo. Sorry.

Maybe that's because I was kidding? I'm not actually advocating killing everyone you see.

But I will note that someone else said here that 1/3 of Americans have a criminal record. So maybe you should only shoot every third person.

You think losing your possessions are worth taking someone's life. I don't...

No, they make that determination, not me.

But if some criminals think stealing my possessions is worth losing their own lives, maybe their lives aren't of much value to anyone.

Bottom line, criminals can't ever be trusted and the worst must always be assumed when they threaten you or yours. Anyone breaking into my home would be assumed to be there to murder people, and dealt with accordingly.

A Georgia man shot and killed a would-be robber in this Family Dollar store in Dekalb County on Tuesday morning, police said. (Google)

A customer shot and killed a would-be thief on Tuesday as he tried to hold up a Family Dollar store in Atlanta, police said.

The shooting took place in the early morning in DeKalb County.

County police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer told WGXA that an unidentified suspect entered the store and pulled a gun on two employees.

While the armed suspect was demanding money from the cashier, a customer pulled his own gun and fired, Fox 5 reported.

Police are investigating the scene but said that the customer will not be charged in the shooting.

There were at least three customers and two employees in the store at the time of the shooting.

There were no other reported injuries or fatalities.

Police laud heroism of Tennessee man who stopped suspect in dental-office killing

A Tennessee man is being hailed as a “hero” by police, who say he shot another man who allegedly entered a dentist office and fatally shot his wife

Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy told reporters on Wednesday that earlier that day authorities got a report of an active-shooter situation at David A. Guy Dentistry in Kingsport.

Cassidy said it took officers six minutes to respond. At the scene, they found that an employee had died, allegedly gunned down by her husband.

Cassidy, who described the situation as “workplace violence” of the “domestic type,” said the situation could’ve been worse, had it not been for a citizen with a concealed weapon.

“We do have a concealed-carry permit holder, I’m not sure where he was at at the time, but call him a hero. He took care of the situation until police officers arrived,” he told local media.

He said the man "saw a threat and eliminated that threat and stood by him until law enforcement arrived.”

Police have not identified the suspect or victim, pending notification of kin. But Cassidy did say the husband/suspect is at a local hospital being treated for a “couple of gunshot wounds.”

There were no other reported injuries; police are still trying to determine the motive for the fatal shooting.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
