Tonight is the final Daily Show with Jon Stewart. One of the great comedies of my generation. I'm really bummed that he is leaving.
 
I thought Two Gentlemen of Verona was one of the great comedies of your generation.
 
As a Republican, his shtick got to me a bit, but both him and Colbert are brilliant.
 
I could not enjoy his or colberts shows at all. I just don't think they are funny.
 
 
He will indeed be missed, he is one of the few people that actually use facts to make points and arguments within media. Say what you will about his humor, but the "jokes" he made were simply pointing out politicians inconsistencies and hypocrisies. Unfortunately for most Republicans, that just happens to be the people they keep voting in to represent them. Whatever happened to the Republican politicians that aren't from reality TV shows? The Ron Paul's of the world have been replaced with watered down versions named Rand, Cruz, Trump, Perry, Rubio, Jindal and Palin. It's amazing that there are so many candidates vying for the nomination when there are really only two that even attempt to differentiate themselves from the rest, the others are all clamoring to follow the leader, Trump.

Kasich and to his credit Trump are the only ones that really stand out, and Kasich is the only one that stands out in a good way. It's terribly sad when there are like 17 candidates running, and the only way you can differentiate between 16 of the 17 is by physical appearance. In terms of platform, they are all vying for the same 20% of the country that are racists, homophobic, misogynistic, white, mostly male populous. It's really something to consider when the platform these guys are running on mimics the platform the 1900's democratic party platform stood for. Where are the guys like Ron Paul that actually have a belief base that they use to form their opinions and stick to it. The vast majority of these guys bring no new ideas to the table, no leadership, no courage, and are frankly literal policy clones of each other, it's shocking.

I am not sure which is worse, the GOP having the illusion of 17 candidates where 16 of 17 of them all actually stand for the same thing, IE hardly more than 2 options. Or the democratic party going into 2016 so far with literally only one real option, and arguably one of the worst options the party could muster at that. Man, politics in this country have really taken a dump.

The GOP strategy is to try and get as many superficially different people of different racial backgrounds, and one woman, and then claim you have a choice. In reality all we get to vote on is who we want as to be the parties mouthpiece for their crappy policies. Want a black dude? Check. East Indian? Check. Woman? Check. Bunch of old white dudes? Check check. How about a Hispanic? Double check. Old white reality show host? Check. So what are we missing? Oh yeah, policy differences and real viable candidates for president. We forgot both of those back in the 1990's.

A comedian isn't a clown.

Actually he was really informed, well read and very prepared. He is one of the best interviewers around, not afraid to ask difficult questions to republicans and democrats.

I don't either, and to be honest with you I don't really watch The daily show that often either. I don't have Comedy Central so I can't even if I wanted to. That said it should be mentioned that it is pretty sad when Stewart, a comedian, is better at reporting news than those that claim to be doing so.

What's especially sad is the fact that he even has said so himself multiple times over the course of multiple years. The guy is good at what he does, and he has forever altered the way media interacts and reports on politics as a result.

To be fair, my one complaint with Stewart is just how he interviews democrats. He never asks Obama about drone warfare, gitmo, nsa saying, or plenty of other things that should really be asked.

I always prefered Bill Maher for my liberal pov show because I enjoy his smarmy asshole shtick.
 
Haven't watched Daily Show much in the last 4 years, but one of my favorite bits he had was Bush v. Bush.

 
I would think he might be second guessing his decision to get out right as the debates start...

Wow! You spent a significant amount of time ragging on those guys, failed to mention one thing against the others. Well I could go on for a page or two about how incompetent Clinton is but why bother. I will just say this, anyone of those people you ripped up is vastly preferable to Clinton or the other socialist. There use to be Democrats a person could vote for and not be far wrong. No more. So I will vote for the one, warts and all, that runs against the Democrat. A win is, anyone that will stop this fundamentally changing America. It was a pretty good place before this crap began.
 
Anyway, back on topic. Stewart did a great job with his show. He pointed out hypocrisy where opportunity was, whether it was related to politics or other cultural issues, and if nothing else made people who watched second guess a bit. I don't think that's a bad thing at all.

The anti-vaxers actually are kooks and liars. There's been absolutely no link at all between vaccines and autism (which is what the kooks like RFK Jr. claim). Maher made exactly that kind of link:

"It seems like common sense that vaccines, even thimerosal, probably don’t hurt most people — if they did, we’d all be dead, because they’re in a lot of vaccines that we all took — but some do. Obviously some minority gets hurt by this stuff."

The WWW site that titled that article "bizarre anti-vaccine rant" etc., is Salon, a very left wing/leaning site.
