I don't believe in league mandated tipping the scales, but I think there is an unconscious bias in officiating on a team's homecourt -- a mild, subconscious inclination to favor an aggressive home team. With all of that adrenaline pumping and crowd noise, it's probably impossible to avoid.

I think Pelicans would have dismantled either one of those teams as I wasn't that impressed with either team in their series. Mitchell was amazing and reminds me a lot of Lillard, but he would have a tough time against the guard tandem at New Orleans if they employed the same game plan as they did against us.

I totally agree. Davis would dominate gobert and holiday/rondo would have shut Mitchell down.
No is actually really scary. They will have the ability to improve this team significAntly by trading boogie in the off season for a different type of impact player or two that better suits thier newfound style of play.
Rondo played like the rondo of old but that wont last, so if i were the pels id target a young replacement in the draft or trade, slide rondo to the bench as a sixth man to run the second unit and with the balance of the trade involving boogie, target a better suited powerforward to put alongside ad.
Honestly, with the way he shoots outside these days, a guy like ed davis alongside ad might make them even better. Ed down low running picks to free up wings and get rebound putbacks and anthony out on the perimiter playong picknroll with the guards.
I cant believe im saying thst considering he is a fa. But i think that route would make them potential contenders next year

Cousins is an unrestricted free agent. The best they can hope for is a sign and trade but that is up to Cousins not New Orleans as he can sign anywhere and there will be teams that are willing to pay him big bucks. Pelicans also won't have cap space to be able to sign Davis unless they were to renounce there free agents (mainly Cousins, Rondo and Clark) so acquiring him would be difficult.

Yeah the Pels have some decisions to make after this season but my bet is they try to keep that team together if at all possible. I also think they are going to give the Warriors a run. I just don't think the Warriors will stroll through that series.

I'm so confused. All through the regular season, @HCP kept telling us this team was too good not to figure it out. When they didn't, and finished behind POR in the standings, he changed his mantra to this team is built for the playoffs.

Well, when has Russ ever figured anything out? It doesn't matter who his teammates are or who the opponent is, he finds a way to lose. Last night was classic Westbrook. The fanbois will point out his 46 points in a elimination game (but no triple double, sorry fanbois - insert sad face emoji here), but they will overlook Westbrook's performance with the game on the line. With five and a half minutes left in the game, OKC was down 5. Over the final five and a half minutes, Russ was 1-8. This is textbook Russ and is yet another example why OKC has always sucked in close games, especially in the playoffs during his time there.

It was comical how quickly and completely Hubie Brown turned on Russ. Hubie is definitely long in the tooth, but the man still forgets more about basketball every day than Russ will ever learn in his lifetime. With 4:52 left in the game, and 7 seconds left on the shot clock, Russ launched a 28 foot, contested 3-pointer. Hubie had been singing Westbrook's praises up to that point. When Russ launched that shot, the first thing Hubie said was, "NO, NO, NO, NO!!!". I swear you could actually hear him shaking his head in disgust. He completely turned on Russ in an instant. He would't let it go. At one point they put up a graphic showing how many times Russ has scored 40+ in an elimination game. To which Hubie replied, "the one stat that's missing is wins". Ouch! (but true).

If I was Paul George, I'd be out of cow town quicker than manure though a heifer. Russ is locked up for FIVE more years at $205 million. He ain't leaving and he ain't changing. It would never happen (LeBron is too smart), but I am 100% convinced if Lebron and Russ were teammates, Russ would:

a) think he's the alpha
b) take more shots than LeBron
c) would freeze out LeBron in the 4th quarter of close games
d) be pissed at LeBron for "stealing" rebounds from him and preventing him from averaging a triple double
e) all of the above

I think the NBA likes to see a series go to six or seven games. Much more revenue from a six or seven game series, which is why they extended first round series from best of 5 to best of 7.

They just did it with OKC/Utah. Westbrook should not have been playing in that deciding game five..... but he did.

I think refs can easily control the ebb and flow of a game by putting specific players into foul trouble and calling specific violations at key moments. We have seen this repeatedly over the years. The Kings/Lakers series was probably the most obvious example, but we have seen others.

The refs almost did it to us in our series against Houston, but Dame hit a ridiculous shot that ended the series.

I saw a stat that showed that Westbrook + George was a pretty large net positive, but Westbrook + George + Melo was not.

OKC need to build a team round Westbrook like Philly did with Iverson. (And get an all-time great coach, like Philly did.) They already have Adams and Roberson (whose injury was the real reason their season tanked) - a healthy Patterson would also be great. George would fit in fine as the 5th man and second scorer - plenty of shots. They just have to get rid of Melo and get some 3-and-D guys for the bench.

OK, it's us. But it's close. OKC can at least say they had a starter out, and though most people will say that Andre Roberson wasn't the difference - he clearly was.
