Gordon Hayward wants out of Utah

One year left on his contract and I'm not sure if Portland has the pieces to get him....but what a nice fit he would be here.

Number 3 isn't that great this year because of the perceived fall off after #1 and #2. Also, Boston has a ton of undersized guards and at #3, that is about what you are going to get so it's not as valuable to them either.

The opt-out after next year is the concern for both Utah and the team acquiring him. I'm sure they don't want to go through another Deron Williams situation even though they got what most thought was decent return for Williams at the time.

That's a fascinating consideration. Not sure how well he fits there with Favors and Gobert already anchoring their frontcourt, but at the very least they get multiple more years. Plus, Utah'd probably love him, 'cause, well...you know.

A starting 5 of Dame-CJ-Hayward-Howard-Leonard is very interesting in my opinion. Gives a defender to put next to Meyers. And Howard and Leonard won't standing next to each other in the paint on the offensive end. But how could we get there?

A resigned Crabbe + Aminu + Plumlee + CLE pick could be enough? If so I am not to worried of the opt out of his contract. Just give him the envy to stay by making a good team around him. If he liked Portland he'll stay.

It's tougher to sign-and-trade players now than it used to be. There were some additional stipulations put into the last CBA that slowed that down quite a bit.

Doesn't like his coach? Doesn't like his teammates? Wants to play for a winner and doesn't believe UTA can build one around him?

He's a streaky shooter that's cold more than hot. His 3FG% for the last three years has been .304, .364. .349. He does get to the line a lot, but he's an average, at best, rebounder, but a good passer. He's also not a great defender. At this point, I'd rather upgrade the PF position (I think there's a lot more to be gained there) and keep Aminu at the 3. Aminu is a better rebounder and defender and at this pint, shoots the 3 as well as Hayward. Plus, he's less than half the cost and locked up longer. If Hayward comes here and is "unhappy" a year from now, he could opt out and end up being a one year rental.

I suspect he really wants to go to BOS to be reunited with his college coach. In the end, I think a trade involving Hayward and the 3rd pick probably makes sense for both sides and that's the most likely destination for Hayward.

The problem for PHX is they would have to include enough salary to make the deal work since they are just over the cap PLUS those Draft picks. Knight or Bledsoe would do it but then I wouldn't include both picks.

Both sides came out about the same time. It's not nearly as much fun to discuss the possibilities of "teams not making a trade' though.

Having lived in Utah for a number of years, I can think of a number of reasons why he is unhappy living there. But I agree that Boston has a lot of assets to get the trade done. Way more than us......that and they see us as a bitter rival.
