Is it doing something like you said, the qualifying offer and going back out there again, or seeing what else is out there? The days of 'I don’t want to play for those teams' are kind of over with now, which is a great thing for baseball and fans in general. Because everybody’s got an opportunity to step up, surprise you, get things going, their minor league systems are great, and have a chance to win.”

Translation: He appreciates the offer, but he will likely turn it down.

Well Grandy as Paul Simon once sang, make a new plan stan, then hops on the bus gus. Head right over to Port Authority and get the next dog out of town.
 
I like Granderson, so I'm not so sure they shouldn't at least make him a fair offer, changing my mind every day.

I can see them signing Choo to a fairly big contract and him coming to NY stinking, at least Granderon was a 40/100 guy with speed in this very competitive division.

That "fair offer" would be the qualifying offer... And for the record, I think even that is too much...

as far as being 40/100... he's done that 2 times in his 10 year career... 2...

Furthermore, from 2006 to 2012 where he was an every day player, he's averaged 149.6 K's per season... and only 67.7 BB's per season those same years... that is a K:BB ratio of over 2.2:1... i.e. he strikes out more than 2 times for every time he walks... Not to mention that if you were to extrapolate out his 2013 numbers to a full (162 game) season, he would have had 18.6HR/39.8RBI with 183.25 K's and 71.7 BB's

Now if you look at the speed aspect, in the same 7 years, he averaged 15 SB a season... and would have had 21.25 this season if you extrapolate out.... still not mind-numbing... Compare that the the 3 seasons in which Gardner played regularly, he averaged 40... (47, 49, & 24) so even Gardner's down year had more than all but 2 of Granderson's 7 years in which he had 25 in 2011 and 26 in 2007.
 
...I'd be VERY surprised if he accepts the QO...and pissed off too.

Id be shocked. Even for all his flaws he should do better than 1/14. Especially after some lose out on the more prolific options.

Speed is not just about SB, it's about not clogging up the bases and helping the team score, SB are an overrated stat IMO anyway, Granderson's power was more help to the team than Gardners SB, because his power protects others in the lineup, Granderson had an immediate impact on the offense when he returned, where Gardner was there every day and not helping much.

And if the "fair offer" is the QO why is that he is going to get better from other teams? are the fans on this board smarter than other GM's?

power in 2 of his 10 seasons..... not worth it...
 
Stolen bases are indeed overrated, but what Granderson now brings to the table is far more overated than that.

His is an terribly flawed player on both sides of the ball that the yankees no longer need. Hopefully the morons in the front office, and the GM who acts like a teenage girl when it comes to HRs can finally see that.

Beltran is old, but a far better option on what should be a shorter term deal, if they do not want to go all out for Ellsbury ( would also mean a draft pick to Boston so thats all but out), or Choo, who is probably going to be way overpaid anyway.
 
Speed is not the tool that should allow you to justify the liability Granderson is in the field and at the plate (referring to his Ks).
 
He isn't worth it as long as you can find better, and a Choo has yet to show he can do that in the AL.

One thing is certain with Grandy- he improves a lineup just by providing protection.

...NL players are assumed to be incapable of hitting in the AL until they actually do so?...I suppose that NL teams should conversely shy away from AL hitters then?..., if you can hit, you can hit, regardless of what league you're playing in.

...and Granderson provides protection but Choo wouldn't?...someone who strikes out as often as Granderson doesn't exactly instill fear in opposing pitchers...he's a skinnier version of Adam Dunn.
 
Actually Choo has done it in the AL, many times, so I was wrong to call him out.

But yes, I feel career NL batters have to prove it the AL and generally will not do as well, unless they become Red Sox of course.

There are concerns with Choo though, he can't touch lefties, not a good thing for the Yankees.
 
...^^^ I know I'll regret this but OK, let's hear it, why do NL hitters have a tougher time hitting in the AL?


...and FYI, Choo is better vs LHed pitching than your boy Granderson.
 
vs LH the past three seasons-

Choo- .626 OPS
Granderson- .840 OPS

How is Choo better?
