I read something the other day about the deal possibly expanding, but it also mentioned that Grant’s travels had slowed his physical. So who knows…?
too bad we don't have any reporters in the local market who bothers following up.

the crazy thing is the Pistons already did a formal press conference with Duren and gave him his jersey.

I’ve posted it before but physicals don’t necessarily hold up deals from being announced, especially in the summer. They can be done after the deal is announced or remotely wherever the player is on vacation at the time. Source: a friend that may or may not be in the agent business.

Yeah. And teams sometimes don't even require the physicals. My overall point is, not worried about the deal falling through, at all. Deal could be expanded, deal could be waiting on Grant's physical, but the deal is clearly going to happen.

there is zero fear of it falling through. I'm just intrigued at potential expansion opportunities.

Could it be Noel? Cam?

I keep coming back to if it was Reddish, the trade could happen now. If it's Noel or Burks or someone like that, it would have to include Bledsoe or another big contract, which also could happen now.

Makes sense. We might even see Bledsoe sent out in the trade instead of the trade exception (likely to third team) or a John Collins trade wrapped into this.

Seems like there is more of this happening every draft/offseason. Where a trade is agreed in principle then finalized with a bunch more activity after free agency.

Could this turn into one massive trade combining the Knicks/Pistons/Blazers/Atlanta/San Antonio trades all together?

Years from now maybe it will get to the point where we just have one giant trade with all 30 teams done July 6th.

Bobby Marks talked about it on the pod with Lowe about Noel/Cam potentially going out as part of the deal too. Would be hilarious if NY somehow gives us that 2025 MIL first back to us for taking Noel. That would be a ridiculous win if we somehow ended up landing both Grant and Noel for just Bledose.

It seems the only reason to do it in June is if there are contract amounts that will change to prevent it being completed in July.

Otherwise, all teams can leave open the possibility of adding additional pieces.

I guess in theory the downside is the risk of a team backing out.

Ha, yeah I like the idea of trading away and receiving back the same pick in a trade.

It could happen now but maybe they're waiting to see if a better deal comes along before going forward with this one. Dont really see a downside in waiting, so why not

Or it really is just the Grant extension they're waiting on (which can't be official until July 6th). I don't get why no one else is bringing up this possibility.

I’m hoping it expands - Gordon to Philly, EBEC to Houston and Thybulle to Portland.

MLE for Hartenstein/Bamba and suddenly our defense is at least average - which is a ginormous upgrade from the Olshey era.

If Bledsoe goes to the Pistons, they couldn't take on Walker (unless they renounced Bagley).

If Bledsoe goes to the Knicks, the only way it would work for their purposes is if we didn't guarantee Bledsoe's contract. To make it work that way, we'd have to use the TPE and not Bledsoe to match Grant. So we wouldn't be able to take on any additional salary since Grant uses up the whole TPE.

What is Philly giving up to match Gordon's contract?

Also, if we do that it would be very tough to have the Full-MLE.

I wonder if they're just waiting to see what Detroit does with its capspace in free agency. If they strike out, they can take on the Bledsoe deal and get Cam as incentive.

Deal 1: Grant /Duren/Kemba
To POR:
- Grant (20.9 mil)
- #46 pick

To DET:
- Kemba (9.5 mil)
- #13 pick
- #36 pick
- future seconds from POR

To NYK:
- 2025 Mil first

Deal 2: Noel + Bledsoe
To POR:
- Noel (9.2 mil)
- 2025 Mil first

To DET (absorbed by capspace):
- Bledsoe (19.2 mil)
- Reddish (5.9 mil)

To NYK:
- future second? i dunno, they do all this for capspace.

It's official. Even if it wasn't, the math doesn't check out.

Then maybe they are looking at dumping Tobias Harris, opening up the full MLE, and getting Gordon as a stopgap.

I still don't see why they give up Thybulle, he's worth more than his small contract and they need depth.

Thybulle was a huge negative for them last year in the playoffs.

Why couldn't the extension be official before that?

Weird that it’s not done since Duran was introduced and got his pistons jersey?

He was a consensus 5 star recruit and was a lottery pick. Who the fuck was doubting him?

he was also a consensus top 10 pick at one point, so he’s probably referring to that.
