Figured ya'll would have an opinion on this one.

I've got it stacked as "He Got Game," "Blue Chips," and "Above the Rim," in that order.

Don't have much use for "Hoosiers," "Coach Carter," nor that post-Katrina basketball movie with Lil' Wayne.

Is there a great basketball movie out there that I'm missing though?

I saw that with my den! It was the first time I used my official Cub Scout Brownie camera. We dropped popcorn over the balcony and some big boys came upstairs all angry looking and sat there the rest of the movie. We were too stupid to be scared.

It starred Fred Murray and Flubber.

Haha... is that from the original Flubber?

I've just been watching clips of Blue Chips, and man, that movie needs to be given more respect amongst basketball fans. Penny and Shaq suck as actors in other stuff, but in this they don't have to act, they just play basketball players. Bob Cousy and Larry Bird also have good bit parts in the film. The whole film is just well written and filled with some funny dialogue that only basketball fans would pick up on. It's outdated and for a niche market, but hell, if you're on this forum, you're apart of that niche market.

Here is a young Popeye Jones and Tony Dumas reviewing the film -

When I saw Flubber, I thought it was just men jumping around. There was no basketball at my school. Baseball was the sport.

Yes. Slightly surprised that "White Men Can't Jump" hasn't been brought up. I wouldn't say it's the "greatest", but it was iconic for a while

You know how sometimes you see some old school movies that are "too old school" for you to get into? "White Men Can't Jump" is that way with me. I know it only came one in 1992, but man, whoever directed that was going for some straight hokey 80's shit all around the board - clothes, music, casting, scenery, etc. It just sort of takes me out of the element because of that. That said, still watched it a lot and will probably wind up watching it a lot more in the future... I've just never connected with it the way I have with some of the really good basketball films.

Never really though of "Finding Forrester" as a basketball movie though. It's more like a movie that involves basketball.

The definition of a great basketball movie to me has always been Spike Lee's "He Got Game." Almost every time I watch this movie, I want to pick up a basketball and go to the park... can't say the same for any other bball movie.

Love this scene right here, where Jake (Denzel Washington) explains where Jesus (Ray Allen) got his name from -

....Not going to crowd this post with videos, but if you haven't seen the movie and want to see a pretty funny shit from it, just click on the link.

Can't stop laughing... gotta love that shit...

Space Jam had Michael Jordan in it. Greatest player. Greatest movie.

(Just kidding)

I just saw "Forget Paris" with Billy Crystal and Debra Winger. It's not considered a basketball movie, I guess, but Crystal played an NBA ref and there were numerous scenes with him on the court interacting with players from about the time Kareem retired. His interaction with the actual players was amusing and the players were fun to see.

The air up there, basketball diaries, like mike and for a chick flick love and basketball isnt half bad.

My favorites are definitely he got game and white men cant jump.

Semi-Pro FTW.

"Suck my cock! I'll kill your family!"

I watch Love and Basketball everytime I see it playing on BET.

Rebound: The Legend of Earl 'The Goat' Manigault
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117450/

It was the first movie I ever saw Don Cheadle in. It was made for TV, but it was really good. Sad story. The guy was amazing.

But ya, "White Men Can't Jump," "Blue Chips," "Hoosiers" and "He Got Game" are all favorites.

This is actually the whole movie on youtube

[video=youtube;xMPJouBxk0M]

It's worth a watch.

Was going to add Basketball Diaries and Love and Basketball but was beaten to it.

If we're talking documentaries, obviously Hoop Dreams is way up there but 30 for 30 has a ton of them. Unguarded is fucking mind blowing, Reggie Vs. the Knicks or whatever that one is called is great, the one about Loyola Marymount, Sam Bowie, etc.

Space Jam.

How can you not like a movie that has both Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny?

My favorite kids movie.

Im surprised no one else has mentioned 'the air up there' pretty good movie with Kevin bacon. A favorite as a kid. I feel old since I saw that movie in theatres almost twenty yrs ago

Does Airplane count?

Joey: And he says that lots of times, you don't even run down court. And that you don't really try... except during the playoffs.
Roger Murdock: The hell I don't! LISTEN, KID! I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I'm out there busting my buns every night. Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes!

Can't believe I forgot about "Final Shot: The Hank Gathers Story". I guess it didn't get the greatest critical reception, but I was in high school when it came out and hadn't heard of Hank (though I had Bo Kimble cards), and that movie hit me hard.

I cannot understand how anyone can watch Blue Chips more than once. Since parts or all of it were filmed in Indiana, I was excited to see it. Lots of locals in it and still I barely was able to stomach it once.

Hoops Dreams, Basketball Diaries, and Hoosiers are mine. Love just about any of the 30 for 30 films.
