Greg Oden and the end of microfracture surgery

What was irresponsible was letting GO get so big. He should have come back at 250 instead of trying to look like Shaq.

Did you guys read the article before going with the knee-jerk comments about the Blazers' medical staff? That was the treatment that was recommended at the time that his knee troubles arose. Sounds like there are new therapies coming along, but they aren't even sure at this point which one will be the best. Absent a time machine, I'm not sure that it makes sense to question the MF decision made at the time. He had a hole in his cartilage and he wasn't likely to be able to play without getting something done about it.

I don't think anyone is posting knee-jerk reactions.

To clarify my position, I didn't have a problem with the MF, I had a problem with the rehab.

Slamming rum and Cokes and eating fast food is the fault of Greg, and Greg only.

Yes but it was our training staff that wanted him to put on weight before the realization that he needed MF surgery. I think it was before he started drinking.

 Yeah, that's how he put on 30 lbs of muscle.

It's impossible to put on 30 lbs. of muscle in 6 months. Plus, what muscles did he exercise to make his face look so bloated after his first missed season?

He had MF surgery 4 months after being drafted, and hadn't really worked with the training staff at all prior to fall camp, other than a week or so in Vegas.

We had a ton of major injuries under the old staff and generally only a few mostly minor injuries under the new one.

Don't tell that to Barry Bonds and his syringe

What was irresponsible was for the girl to post his selfie on the web. It's just genetics that made it so big, nobody's fault.

I suppose what I'd like is a link that says the Blazers' plan for Oden after his first MF was to put on more weight. Can anybody find me a quote that says that was the plan? :dunno:

Well that should be a red flag! Hopefully Paul doesn't fall in love with his medical staff like he does his young players.

Go find it yourself if that's what you'd like. We're not here to serve you. You're free to believe whatever you wish.

You're making the claim that the training staff wanted to bulk up Greg. YOU are making a claim that you are treating as fact. When questioned about your claim, you should have a source to back it up. It's not up to me to be your Fact Checker. You made the claim. Back it up! I think you're insecure in your position, and now you're lashing out at me for questioning it. A before/after photo proves literally nothing. You said 30 lbs. of muscle was the plan. Were you lying? Were you incorrect? I certainly aren't going to take your word on it. You blamed the staff.
