Greg Oden back to rehabbing

The Oden Apologists are out en masse in this thread.

Didn't Oden admit that he was drinking too much, and that he was taking things more seriously?

The last thing he should be doing right now is hanging out at a club, if his idea is to try and rehabilitate his image as a self-proclaimed drinker.

I really doubt that when people hear, "Greg Oden" they think of alocholic/drunk/drinker. I wouldn't call that an image.

I don't see at all how this is a positive for Oden. He said to the media that he drank too much during the years he was injured. Now, he is up for a contract, and he is out at the clubs again. The OP's photo has nothing to do with this reality, because I'm sure the Blazers have somebody giving them info about Oden, anyhow. I did notice that Cho said nothing about Oden as a future nucleus for the team in his Quick interview. My thought is that this isn't the first time Greg's been out on the town.

Just not a smart move, IMO, in terms of an NBA future. Sure, the guy gets injured, but will his lifestyle play a role in him being a bust?

If I ran an NBA franchise, Oden's admission prior to this season of drinking too much in the past would wave a huge red flag at me. Now, if he is still going out, I certainly wouldn't think he is at all serious about being in the NBA. How is this a positive for Oden, or even the Blazers?

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict Greg will accept the Q.O., if the Blazers even offer it to him, which will make him a UFA next season.

You would of hated to see Kersey at the bar, dude drank a lot and if you tried to high five him he would sleep with your girlfriend and your best friends girlfriend at the same time.

I think you guys are giving us fans way too much clout in how a player feels about the city. The majority of fans aren't super stalkers, or annoying ass clowns. That's a very small minority, who the players know that are ass clowns.

They don't spend their time reading message boards lamenting that someone took a blurry picture of them and people complain about the fact he's out having fun and wanting to be not bothered by douche bags at a club.

So, I was at Aura last night. Snapped this picture (i know it's horrible).

Oden, just chilling at the club, drinking.

Had his bodyguard with him, not even paying attention to the people that just wanted high fives. Dude wasn't even in vip, just sitting right next to the bar with his crew.

I know everybody deserves to go out and have fun, but didn't he say that he was no longer drinking and going out to party? Isn't that all that he did on his last rehab? I just don't know about him any more. Plus, he was quite rude to the couple fans I saw walk up to him that stuck a hand out for a high five, Oden just stuck op the peace sign and ignored them.

At least he was sitting.

Stupidest. Post. Ever.

I had a friend that saw Him at the downtown Buffalo Wild Wings during a game last year drinking and having a fun time. He also said he was rude.

This is crazy you guys. Why can't he go out? And about him being a dick or rude........ couldn't be further from the truth! One of the coolest most fun guys to be around. On the other hand my boy Joel Przybilla DOES NOT like being interrupted if we are out having dinner or something!

Oden promised never to drink again, never to go anywhere for fun again and never to eat anything but vegetables again. If I'm an NBA GM, broken promises like that are a huge red flag.

Last time I checked, pretty sure Kersey was at least spending money he EARNED by PLAYING at the bar. I wouldn't want Oden fucking for the simple fact that he would find a way to hurt himself further.

Tons and tons of homers in this thread.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having high standards for what he does off the court. After all, he's cost the Blazers millions and hasn't produced squat.

That said, most professional athletes can be pricks if you act over the top, or invade their space in public situations.

I know. Any objective fan would be spitting furious over the fact that Oden was in a club one night.

AND DIDNT HIFIVE SOME OTHER UNNAMED CLUBGOERS!!!!11!

Portland invested a #1 draft pick in the guy and he can't high-five some dudes in a club? Durant would've.

Why is it that Durant is so much better in every way? He says all the right things. Does all the right things. How did management drop the ball so badly on this one? If Portland ever gets a top pick again and has to choose between top scorer or foundation center, you have to take the score from here on out for the rest of eternity...

lol at this jonfarr guy for not getting the chance to high five oden in the club and got turned down for a pic on his blackberry. So instead he gets on ripcity to bag on oden.. Look guys if we want oden to stay with portland we cant be posting shit like this. PA also got to pony up some cash to keep him next year (quick mentioned that cho was just going to offer him the MLE). we need to offer him something right below the max.. I can just see him signing a max deal with the the heat next yearand he is exactly the player they are missing. a center that will dominate the paint and require double and tripple teams. Just watch I bets he goes to south beach

How soon until you start the "is Oden getting snubbed?" thread, mxracer741?

Psst....

Heat can't offer him chit.

I think someone is just butthurt that Oden couldn't give two shits about you and thinks you're weird for stalking him.

Pat Riley being the heats owner makes as much sense as Greg not slapping hands with fans...

I suppose it depends on how many of those things you care about. I don't care about whether an athlete says the right things, looks the right way, does the "right things." All I care about is their play...and in that respect, Durant basically does one thing better: stay healthy. And that, sadly, makes all the difference.

I don't think management dropped the ball. No one was saying at the time that Oden was a serious injury concern or injury prone. Maybe there were some warning signs, but to me it seems that only in hindsight do they look ominous. I think the talent evaluation of Oden was bang on. Maybe there was damning information available pre-draft about Oden's health, but I haven't seen it. In the absence of that, I think management got unlucky.

The Heat are going to offer Greg Oden a max contract this summer. You heard it here first, folks.

Write down the date: I am going to actually agree with Minstrel! :devilwink:

At the time of the draft, there was one argument for taking Durant first - he was a gym rat who lived for the game. Oden was not. As things turned out, that was an irrelevant distinction.

Worse yet, I bet Oden has spent as much if not more time in the gym than Durant since he was drafted. Of course, Durant has been working on his game while Oden has been working on his joints.
