Really sly? Of all the things said in this thread, you are going to edit that one and say it was an insult? lol. And you all left bbf because the mods were getting out of control.

Hernandez said he understands representing the Mariners is part of his job. Clearly, he gets that there's more to being ''The King'' than just pitching every fifth day.

''It's important to me and the team, too,'' he said of his offseason appearances. ''We're a family together.''

Hernandez spent part of his offseason back home in Valencia, Venezuela, but he has a full-time residence in Seattle now. That is the house where the Cy Young Trophy will sit on his mantle. That is the house where he and his wife Sandra are raising their young son and daughter.

''I love this city,'' Hernandez said. ''This is my home.''

Class act. The guy is on a HORRIBLE team. had the fewest wins by a Cy Young winner ever (because his team couldnt score), yet he drops bombs like this. Felix is young. He, according to most here, has every right to go do as he wishes and party like a kid and be uninterested in his club, but no. He is fully committed. Comes out in the media and still holds his ground. A guy like this could easily, this time of year, be saying that he deserves to be using his talents in a place that wants to win a championship, but no. He is selfless.

What kind of ridiculous statements are going to be made about this?

(its not from Jason Quick or Woj, so how can you discredit my source?)

It sounds like you should invest more of your time in the M's, since the Blazers' players won't live up to your standards.

Quiz: Who's the dame?

Allyssa DeHaan, 6-9, Michigan State grad last season, not playing this season, not good enough for the WNBA.

On one site with the Oden picture and her, a commenter said it was her. So I looked for images of her and there was the Oden picture again, grouped with them, so someone else thought it's her. I wanted more verification it was her, and saw many pictures of her. She definitely looks like the girl with Oden, so I know it's her.

Oden Apologists continue to amaze me.

At least no one is still standing by the "Oden isn't injury prone" argument.

Now, they've moved on to comparing him to Brandon Roy and also getting at angry at people who are concerned about Greg's lifestyle.

Roy bad; Oden good.

Hilarious.

I'll say it. I'll even put up a small prize as a bet for who plays the most games over the rest of their career. I pick Oden.

No ridiculous statements. I would just say that it's pretty clear that you think pro athletes need to be as much amabassador as player. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, except that it's built on -- what I consider at least to be -- bullshit. Certainly I like the players on teams that I follow to conduct themselves professionally and I prefer they keep their names out of the police blotters, but on the other hand expecting them to be paragons of virtue, flitting around the community doing PR appearances in an effort to build their brand and their image does nothing for me. I KNOW that these guys are not my friends, I KNOW that we have almost nothing in common and I don't really want them to have to pretend otherwise.

lets face it though...

as i said many times. greg will never be the player portland wants on or off court. he doesnt have the desire that he claims. oden wont be in portland after this summer ends.

How about who plays the most games in their entire career? Roy has already played the equivalent of 3.5 seasons in 5 NBA years, and if gets back after the AS break, it will be 4 full seasons. Oden has played one season in 4 NBA years.

Who cares who plays the most from this point forward? This isn't about him going forward; it's about Oden right now, isn't it?

Ben Roethlisberger was out Tuesday night drinking beers at 1am in Dallas.

Thoughts?

What's done is done. Who cares about that?

All that matters is the future. The rest is history.

The future is unknown. Are we going to 100% opinion here, and past statistics don't matter, even when predicting future behaviors?

Okey Dokey...

Then again, it does give an easy out to any thread.

What's done is done. I like it! I'm stealing it for any conversation about the past.

95% of the interesting things on this board are about projection/prognostication/guessing.

This thread is about, to me, the impact (if any) Oden going out will have on his future performance. Not the mere fact that he went out drinking.

This thread, to me, is about Oden's lifestyle, his past words, and how they relate to his present behavior.

Alas, what's done is done.

Why is his present behavior relevant? Other, of course, than in how it will impact future performance?

thats not too nice maxie. you shouldnt wish mariners fandom on anyone. like you said to me earlier, you know im a fan and we just have differing opinions. pdx loves the other blazers!

I hope he doesnt rape someone else. and i would be PISSED if i was a steelers fan.

damn. a 6'9 girl would be fun....

(+2 respect to oden if he smashed)

Nobody knows how it will impact future performance. All that we know is the past and the present, and the present is never static.

What's done is done.

If I saw a 6'9" woman dressed like that, I don't know if I'd run away in fear or spring a boner. Or both...

It's like a gigantic flamingo, yet it talks.

That's funny, No wonder why she didn't look like a dwarf compared to him

Your Right. It's pretty hard to meet Unrealistic expectations that are out of touch with Reality. Personally, all I want from Greg is a Beast on D, an Anchor. And for him to be his fun loving self off the court. Dude is young, the rest will come. I know Cho is a long term thinker, so I expect him to do what it takes to retain G.O.

her ability to stand and balance on one leg could prove useful

Because it shows where he at right now. How it impacts his future, I have no idea. I can only comment on what has been done, and what's done is done, so there is no use analyzing it, since I can't accurately predict his future behavior. If I did try to predict it, it would be from a position of ignorance, as would any disagreement with said position. In summary, we'd just be posting for the single reason of arguing the specifics of an unknown future. Doesn't seem that much fun to me, and since the past doesn't matter to you, because it's done, I'd say our exchange in this thread has run its course. :)

I think you're being inconsistent and/or illogical, and I'm trying to get to the bottom of it.

You want to know Oden's present... why?

Because it will impact his future? Or just because you want to judge him as a person and who he is now? Or some other reason?

If you don't want to answer the question, that's fine. You repeating yourself as an evasion is tiresome.

So, you honestly have zero interest in how we all got to this point?

I don't care about Oden's personal life, doubly so since I believe he has no NBA future to worry about. I am, however, very curious as to how the "best center in a generation" turned out to be a horrible flop. I may disagree with PapaG's theory, but I understand his curiosity.

Since we can't unwreck the train, what's wrong with asking why it wrecked?

He has had knee injuries. I'm not curious how or why. That just happens. It always has happened with players and it always will.

Given that this whole thread has his alcohol consumption as an underpinning, though, it's not merely a conversation about "what went wrong?" but, seemingly, "how did Oden fuck up his basketball career?" ... which prompts me to wonder why--even if we all have total, perfect knowledge--that matters unless it's going to influence his future as a basketball player.
