Greg Oden: 'I'll be remembered as the biggest bust in NBA history' (1 Viewer)

It's totally ridiculous. He's not the biggest bust. Not by a mile.

Hasheem Thabeet. Picked #2 ahead of Harden. Horrible horrible horrible player. Never dealt with the same injuries as Oden.

Michael Olowokandi. Picked ahead of Vince Carter, Paul Pierce, Dirk Nowitzki.

Darko Milicic. Picked ahead of Wade, Melo, and Bosh.

There's simply no way that Oden is the biggest bust. He was a huge disappointment because of his injuries, but he played well when he was actually healthy.

Durant is honestly better than all those guys, so the opportunity cost makes Oden a bigger bust in my opinion. I can understand people disagreeing with me.

The one thing that mitigates the disaster of choosing Oden is we don't really know how Durant and Aldridge might have gotten along. It's pretty easy to imagine that dynamic not playing out well, and us seeing one or both walk on us well before we get a title. So maybe Kandi was a bigger disaster when you could've had a long-term cornerstone like Dirk, or Darko for the same reason with Wade.

With Jordan there's no doubt in my mind that we blew multiple titles by whiffing on him. It's really, really hard to imagine anybody ever supplanting Bowie as the greatest bust in NBA history.

And yet, KD has zero rings. My biggest issue is that I don't agree with the use of the word "bust."

Where would we be right now if we had drafted Durant? We could be in worse shape. If he bolted from OKC he'd probably have bolted from here, just as LA did.

We'd never have traded for Wallace nor traded Wallace for the pick that got us Lillard. Durant would have kept us good enough to not get lotto picks, so no CJ either.

Durant is honestly better than DWade and Dirk ?
I certainly think that's a debatable statement

Oden is not even close to being the biggest bust in history, hasn't he been paying attention? Hillary Clinton is the biggest bust in history, and I voted for the woman! :P

No, Oden won't be remembered at all

How can Adam Morrison be a bust? He has a championship ring. HA! Always cracks me up when people use winning rings as a way to judge a players greatness.

And what about the chump the Cavs drafter a couple years ago Number 1? He's not even in the league and I don't even remember his damn name. Anthony?

Anthony Bennett, I would say, is a much bigger bust than Oden. At least Oden looked like a player out there when he was healthy. It didn't happen much, but he helped our team when he was able to play. The same thing can't be said about Bennett. At all.

Oden was one of the most hyped prospects of all time. He has to be the greatest disappointment in NBA history.

I mean, come on. We held a fucking parade for this guy the day after he was drafted.

Bowie wasn't even the first pick, which we would not have used on him.

Houston would absolutely have taken Bowie had we won the toss.

John Stockton, the 2nd best player from that draft, went at #16.

Oscar Schmidt, the all-time leading scorer in the history of basketball, with 49,737 career points, record holder for the longest career span of a basketball player, and the top scorer in the history of the Olympics, was drafted by the NJ Nets, but never played in the league because he would be prohibited from playing for his country's national team.

IMO, this is the most notable pick in the 1984 draft, as it eventually exposed a ridiculous rule that was preventing patriotic foreign players like Sabas entering the NBA.

Ironically, Bowie ended up playing for the Nets most of his career.

Makes me sad. I always liked Oden, liked his personality. His body just didn't cooperate but I still like the guy.
