GREG ODEN: “IS THERE ANY PROOF THAT I’M A BUST?”

Welcome to our community

* Greg Oden is one of the two best players to come into the NBA in the last ten years according to comprehensive advanced statistics. (Hint: the other is LeBron).

im waiting for the punch line ....

This made me laugh.

Repped - except I can't give MIXUM rep before spreading more around.

Is "bust" a permanent label or not?

So, are you implying a player cannot be labeled a failure until their career is over?

So, it is possible that drafting Webster instead of Paul/Williams was not a mistake? Since Webster has not yet retired, we can't judge his career? Or are we just not supposed to judge his career in comparison to Paul/Williams?

oh cmon...now after editing nothing makes sense...."*edited*"? really? thats edited? oh well

Wow...brutally awesome.

But you know Durant isnt winning anything until after he is traded to the Lakers in 3 years

durant will win a title in 3 years.... meanwhile back at the ranch... (here and olive forums)

"hey.... stop calling oden a bust, his knee will be 100% next year"

"oden has only missed 4 seasons... how can he be a bust"

"did you see the numbers he got in January before he got hurt"

"if oden is healthy we will still win a title'

listen....it sucks as a blazer fan to write that but its so true. i wish and hope to god im wrong. but i just dont see it.
infact if im wrong on oden... i will post it and apologize.

I like how the forum's two biggest *edited* are bff's. Makes sense.

I realized about 2 years ago that Mixum just has a way to irk you even if its something you agree with him on. Its on purpose, I think he is very well written in the context of a sports forum. This place would be boring and not have much to talk about.

Poster 1: I luv Blazers
Poster 2: Me too!!!!

What is actually sad is how this place has become a lot of posters who shit all over you if you have one critique or complaint about anything Blazers related. You might get away with complaining about one play in one game, anything beyond that then its off with your head.

And RoyToy...just refrence my sig if you need a reminder...Im always right :ghoti:

Mixum, you really believe Durant will get a title in 3 years? I could see it but not so sure. You are saying this assuming he stays in OKC and the young core gets a chance to develop?

jokim noah is a better center then odem thats just kill yourself depressing. a pf who is a better center then a 7 footer who was a cant miss.

god what a disaster
2nd time I've posted this to counter similar silliness. Here's the average stats from the 3 times those two have matched up since they came into the league

Noah 19.3 Min, 4.7 Pnts, 54FG%, 0.7 FTM@ 50%, 5 Rbnds, 1 Blk, 4.7 fouls
Oden 23.3 Min, 17.3 Pts, 68FG%, 7.3 FTM@ 81%, 11.7 Rbs, 2Blk, 3.7 fouls

11-19-2008 Portland W 116-74
01-12-2009 Portland W 109-95
11-23-2009 Portland W 122-98

...now factor in that this year Noah will be 25 and Greg 22 and just maybe the sky isn't falling as fast as you're imagining

Wow...3 whole times...and only basing it off of playing each other and not the rest of the league...or what kind of defensive or offensive strategy that was happening in those particular games
...sure was lucky Oden was healthy enough to play those 3 games so you can tell us he is better

well they did match up a 4th time back in college. Noah's team won the game but Greg did okay then too

having watched all 4 of those games, Noah's offensive and defensive strategy seemed to be what the fuck can I do with this guy? You could read about those games in the links I provided :)

Well its a good thing there are 30+ other centers Noah plays against in his 75 other games each season to base how ACTUALLY valuable he is.

Shane Battier give Kobe fits when they play....what player do you want (if his name wasnt Kobe, lol)

Also, what is not mentioned is that Oden didn't play in the other 3 games due to injury. I just disagree with the tactic of trying to demean other players to try and prop up Greg. To your credit, I haven't seen you use this approach to excuse Bynum's injuries.

Because one on one matchups dont mean shit until the playoffs...

...but I think I have done it tongue and cheek before just to fuck with Kingspeed

value is one of those eye of the beholder things... everyone seems to define it their own way. Certainly an argument could be made for either player's value depending on what you prioritize. Do you go with the bigger, younger, more athletic, higher ceiling guy or with the high motor scraper who has fared better with injuries (though because of injuries he only played 64 games last year)?

my point in this thread was to counter the ridiculous contention that this is anywhere close to a settled matter/disaster as there is a pretty obvious other side of the coin. You're free to ignore it too, just as anyone is free to step out onto whatever shaky limb they choose. I'm sure you're aware that tendonitis is common and doesn't usually cause a guy to miss much time

btw... is Kobe getting any younger?

Ill take the guy whos on the court thank you very much.

As for Kobe...his knee feels better now then at any time last year and he wasnt playing during the offseason....I'll take it

I'm a quality over quantity guy on most things. As such, I'd much rather roll the dice that a more talented player staying healthy then a less talented but usually healthy player getting significantly better. This is especially so when a player hasn't sustained injuries that should affect them longterm as is the case here. Unfortunately for Laker fans the same can't be said for their young Big

to be sure, time isn't on their side. Don't they feature the oldest rotation in the league?

Repped. I am so sick of that particular tactic.

I'm not sure that is what STOMP was trying to do - but other posters have done it frequently.

I've never asked for anyone to be banned. People like you amuse me, I'd never want you to leave. ;) I've always said that people who don't enjoy your approach should simply ignore you.

I guess I disagree that a player can be "a bust thus far". IMO, a player is either a bust or not.

If his career ended tomorrow, he's a bust. If he gets healthy and plays another 10-15 years at a high level, he isn't.

It could, but then Durant hasn't underachieved the expectations for him so far.

Oden hasn't underachieved as much as he's been injury prone, and his injuries have without a doubt affected his play on the court. Even with that, he's shown he can produce and make a team significantly better when he's on the court.

Bust is a label I can't put on any player that's shown when healthy he's worthy of where he was selected. Injury prone on the other hand is.
