WOW. Its so funny to listen to blazer fans defend Oden. Its like a mom with their kids. I root for the blazers and could care less about indivdual players like oden. Ive moved on. Anything he can do at this point is a bonus. The franchise is Roy, LA, and Batum.

But health is a big part of sports. It factors in to being a bust. If a guy never plays.... then its the same thing as being lousy. Either way hes not out there. Oden looked great last year. Problem is, his body just cant take it. It sucks, i feel bad for him but its reality. Hes never gonna play even 60 games in a season. I mean all you can hope is he's ready if we make the playoffs. I know this will make a homers eyes bleed but im sorry its the truth. If he ever could stay healthy he would be great. If i could win the lotto i would be set for life. IF .....but likely wont EVER happen.

I mean think about this and really take it in for a minute without homerism. Joel had 2 MAJOR knee surgeries in 6 months and is closer then Oden. Greg got hurt BEFORE joel did and isnt close to returning. That is not only scary (considering the age difference) its downright depressing asking.....begging....blazer fans for a reality check. Oden playing this season is becoming more and more iffy. Hate on me all you want but you know deep down inside that oden is a bust and would all take horford or durant in a heartbeat.

and um.... oden has missed 2 seasons total. when hes played... he has been solid. not elite. not a star. hes not a huge scorer and never will be. nice defensive presence with shot blocking ability. that is what he is. NOT A STAR, a solid player. He was taken #1 overall over an ELITE player in durant. Oden cant even tie durants shoes.

So yes ODen is a bust IMO. Can he help the blazers? Yes. Will he ever be elite. No chance in hell. With his injuries and limited offense.... he is what he is. a solid player who didnt live up to a number 1 pick.

"Bust" is based on complete body of work. If you're seriously trying to make the case that an old Shaq is a "bust", or that old Jordan was a "bust", well, good luck with that one. Most people, I imagine, see those two as great players who finally got too old to be dominant.

I realized about 2 years ago that Mixum just has a way to irk you even if its something you agree with him on. Its on purpose, I think he is very well written in the context of a sports forum. This place would be boring and not have much to talk about.

Eat your heart out, Wolverine. The X-Men superhero won't be the only one with metal fused into his skeleton if a new titanium foam proves suitable for replacing and strengthening damaged bones.

Bone implants are typically made of solid metal – usually titanium. Though well tolerated by the body, such implants are significantly stiffer than bone.

This means that an implant may end up carrying a far higher load than the bone it is placed next to, according to Peter Quadbeck of the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials Research in Dresden, Germany. In a worst-case scenario, the decrease in stress placed on the bone means it will deteriorate, while the implant loosens and needs to be replaced.

Now Quadbeck and colleagues have created a titanium implant with a foam-like structure, inspired by the spongy nature of bone. The titanium foam does a better job than solid metal when it comes to matching the mechanical properties of bone, such as flexibility, and this encourages more effective bone regrowth.

What's more, the foam is porous, so the bone can grow around and within it, truly integrating the implant with the skeleton.

The titanium foam is made by saturating polyurethane foam with a solution of titanium powder and binding agents. The titanium clings to the polyurethane matrix, which is then vaporised away along with the binding agents. This results in a titanium lattice which is finally heat-treated to harden it.

Though the foam has yet to be approved for use in humans, Quadbeck and colleagues are now working with physicians to explore its suitability for treating certain injuries.

being ridiculous is a choice you're making. The league decides what constitutes a player's rookie year, this isn't done based on what some Blazer fans might want to hear. Everyone but a certain proud contrarian playing semantics games goes along with the official record keeper's call because it is a non-issue... specific contract considerations can easily be gathered with a little digging.

There are plenty of posters making reasonable statements/arguments in this thread as to why they do not consider Oden a bust without resorting to 'attacking' you, but you lump anyone with that opinion into a single homer group and use wildly off base hyperbole to create a strawman to beat up on.

And as for those attacks, you're purposefully antagonizing to the point of resorting to personal attacks yourself and then claiming to be the victim of others using your same tactics, color me unsympathetic.
