No one is against people under 18 not being able to play m rated games, what is at issue is the NRA trying to deflect the blame off of guns and scapegoat other things.
I think the concept of violent video games are the cause of these crazy shootings is seriously reaching. There have been mass murders throughout history long before a video game ever existed. What I see wrong with video games are children aren't as active as they were and become unhealthy and fat. They aren't motivated to do productive things like ride their bike, homework, study, etc. I disagree that the video games are what is the driving force for violence.
I blame this baseball and football game for kids these days being lazy and not doing their homework!
Rather than point at guns or video games directly, would it not be reasonable to suggest that our culture has an unhealthy fascination with violence in general?
Whether it be the proliferation of firearms, the preponderance of violent games/movies, or the media glorification of violent criminals, all of it is symptomatic of a society that has become desensitized to violence.
To me, it seems like blaming guns or games for violence is akin to blaming your cough or your fever for making you sick. We can focus on the symptoms all we want, but the root of the problem is much deeper IMO.
It's upsetting that people are trying to blame the tool (the gun) and the hobby (video games) instead of focusing on the problem (people).
Guns may have been involved, but like video games, they are not the cause. Normal people do not commit crimes with guns, just like normal people are not influenced to do bad because of video games.
In a situation like this where all sides are trying to blame each other instead of focusing on a solution that actually achieves something without restricting and smothering the people, we all lose.
Someone on reddit (lol reddit) has a good point
As someone who has played video games and watched violent movies my whole life, I do wonder if it hasn't desensitized me to violence. Does it make me want to go out and kill a lot of people? No, but does it maybe lessen the overall impact of those deaths? Possibly. It amazes me how quickly people make jokes about things like that.
Taking away guns solves little.
It takes away a possible means to an end, but it doesn't fix the core (or root) problem. Take away guns, and there's still potentially a shooting like the one in Sweden. Or how about the dude in China that attacked a bunch of children with a knife recently?
In China, the govt. runs over peaceful protesters with tanks.
holding tanks of water are utilized for water supplies of communities large and small

I was speaking to how their govt. intimidates the population, restricts liberties, imposes slave labor, etc. I am not sure that pointing at them and saying, "what they're doing is awesome!" is very compelling.

Real Americans are against people under 18 not being able to play m rated games and guns being regulated out of the hands of citizens. What is at issue is the MEDIA and anti-America crowd trying to deflect the blame from the lack of mental health care available in our country by blaming inanimate objects.
in China they don't have the right to have a gun...

So move the fuck to China.
It'll be a lot less violent than trying to disarm Real Americans, and I think your mindset would fit right in over there.
