When we were at our FL beach house in October, we were a bit surprised to find that one of our previous guests had left this large bottle of bourbon behind. I'm more of a beer drinker, so I had no idea about its quality. However, my brother-in-law told me it's pretty darned good. Might have to take you up on that bacon/bourbon gravy. Do you have a good recipe?

Yes, I have very good recipes. I will PM you them later.

I think your pessimism is going to turn out to have been unjustified.

It could be, maybe your optimism is unjustified!
I know I am but what are you! Lol :), is that a good argument?

The thing is, around here I think the idea is oh they’ll be more unifying because they agree with me on more things or, they’re just not Trump, or the GOP, and so its my opinion that because of that we just think oh everyone’s gonna be happier. In some Red state, or county, or someone like that I dont think those people view EW, Or Biden, or Pete, etc as someone who cares at all about the things that are important to them, I think they’re seen as divisive people who will just pander to the left, and extreme left leaning people. Just like how I know many people now who are of the belief that Trump isnt divisive its the Dems trying to make him into a divisive figure, I dont agree with it, but these two parties are not close at all, and view each other as the enemy, and Im not sure that any of the Dem candidates will care enough to try to start mending those fences or not, and Im also not sure if either side actually wants mended fences, I think they want votes and if they have enough they’re good. - Which is in essence how politics works.

Yes, but the difference is that that characterization isn't true.

I disagree, that's how Trump politics works. You don't have to go back very far in history to find presidents who tried to steer a middle-of-the-road course.

Pleasing your most rabid followers at all costs is definitely not the norm or a good political strategy. As Trump is going to find out soon.

Breaking news....Trump just got busted with his hand in the cookie jar....judge rules he must pay 2 million to the charity he used for his own private purchases that was set up as a children's cancer foundation.....about as sleazy as a billionaire could get with money earmarked for suffering children used to buy portraits of himself, etc

Yes it is.

The political strategy got him to be President though not many can say that.
Also, I think the characterization is somewhat true, their views are so wildly different and engrained that to those that lean to the left people pushing "right" views are a threat to their ideals and vice versa. Just because they aren't "divisive" to you or me, because we agree (or mostly agree) with them does not mean their ideas aren't divisive to others.

I think the real issue is the last two or so elections the amount of people who seem firmly on one side or another has grown to the point that most politicians don't think they need to really get buy-in from the other side, and because there's no need for it, we will see less and less bipartisan approach or the approach of trying to obtain "middle-of-the-road" course. I could be wrong.

I also just heard that Alabama is issuing a warning to Bama/LSU students/fans that any disruptive behavior at Saturday's game in Tuscaloosa will not be tolerated.

...I have no words.

oh, the thread where you posted a picture of yourself crying? and the post of you begging to have the thread removed? If that's your idea of fun, then so be it. Here's a suggestion, when you are trying to be cute and clever with your responses then make sure they are cute and clever. :bgrin:

Heh, for the record, that thread was started by @SlyPokerDog. Like John Kerry...at first I was against the thread...then I was for it. It was fun in the end.

At any rate, I'm always cute and clever, mon frere. Thanks all the same for your suggestion, though.

Dude, you go after people way too hard.

Dude, bacon and bourbon gravy. I promise you'll be the hit of turkey day.

I'm a pretty damn good cook myself, according to my wife and others....and my Son also happens to be a Chef...we're always trying outdo each other and we're always "experimenting". I'm kinda curious about your "bacon and bourbon gravy"... I did some googling and I'm wondering if this recipe is anything like yours;

I've also seen some recipes that call for chicken stock and heavy cream as well.

Do yourself a favor and switch to a great blended Scotch such as Haig and Haig's the Dimple Pinch.

I think the best marinate for bird is Japanese Sake...second is red wine...French table wine

Take some bacon grease, add some coffee, then add some flour, salt and pepper. Now cook for 20 or 30 minutes and you've got yourself some lip smacking red eye gravy. Great over biscuits or when extra pepper is added it is great over rice. We've got the phi beta kappas all over the South to attest to it not to mention the very best heart attack survivors in that same region of the country to attest to it.

This sounds like gravy my mother would make when I was growing up...sans the coffee....never heard of that used for gravy..

The addition of the coffee is what makes it red eye gravy.

I'm not sure that's an adequate conclusion though as I feel it had more to do with people just wanting a change and saw trump as a non politician, but had no idea what he would be like as a politician as he had no history and all we knew about trump is he was suppose to be some great businessman and then when the covers get peeled back, it's obvious he really isn't that either. Now that we have all seen what he is really like a lot of people are having second thoughts and that was exposed in the 2018 elections as well as the other day elections and will be defined even more clear in the 2020 election.

I used to drink Pinch back in the day...nowadays, it's J&B...or Knockando if/when I can find it.

J & B is a fair Scotch if you don't want to spend money but The Dimple Pinch is real Scotch and not real cheap.

No, mine is a turkey gravy.

I used to love that bottle that Pinch came in...used the empties many times for containers of pepper sauce, etc. But my bride is usually good for a 1/2 gallon of "J&B & me" (Ricki Lee Jones reference) for my B-Day & XMas. This is the Pinch bottle I remember. Had that braided wire on the outside.

He may get impeached, but he won't be ousted. Meanwhile, you should be spending your time fighting for democracy.

Wait, do you seriously believe that Trump is "fighting for democracy"?

Besides, if he's impeached he won't need to be actually ousted because if he's impeached it probably also means he won't be re-elected which is all I care about.

The GOP needs to start looking for a viable 2020 nominee other than Trump.
