Harden receives flop warning from NBA for play against Portland

Warnings and fines simply won't do anything. It has to hurt. Suspensions are a good way to start, but I think it's better to punish the team as a whole. Stop teams from teaching this kind of behavior. If they get enough warnings, take away wins, take away draft picks, take away revenue. Make it hurt.

Isn't Clutch fans the big one? Better go there if you want to troll :devilwink:

Who is to say this isn't ingrained in high school?

Well, I understand that part. I would just hope it would have a trickle down effect, I suppose.

You know there are some teams that just flop like crazy, way more than other teams *cough* the Clippers *cough cough*.

How can the ref not tell a flop when everyone in the whole god damn arena can see it. That's why I think NBA refs must be corrupt, it's like they want to fall for it sometimes.

The refs are just carrying out orders. If the refs were corrupt, they wouldn't be favoring the superstars, they would be favoring the crappy teams because that's where the big money would be on gambling.

LOVE the shopped photos! Bravo guys!

Back to Dviss' take: Then how about the league fines the refs when they fall for a flagrant flop? I'm serious. Take out the guess work. Stop calling flops. Floppers will stop flopping. They won't though, because the league isn't serious about stopping it. Player fines will never work to stop flopping, especially in the playoffs or in a critical game, because the amount of the fine to the players is like a cup of hot cocoa to me. Well worth it to the player, especially as it relates to playoff success.

Flopping is pretty rare in HS basketball. I ref 80-100 games every year. 50+ of them are HS games (30 or so Varsity). We refs simply don't allow it to happen. When it happens it is addressed the way I said in my previous post.

NBA refs are not corrupt. They are Lazy. They are ball watching, lazy people who get paid an ASTRONOMICAL amount of money (save a few that I've met like Bennie Adams and Violet Palmer). They don't get in position to correctly analyze the play and are consistently watching the ball whether it's in their primary area of coverage or not.

The refs should call the flop as technical foul. That punishes the team and if acumulative a second Tec would remove the player.

When I played in high school, faking a charge, was called as a technical foul for unsportsmanlike conduct. Back then (yes, I'm old), the term flopping hadn't even been invented yet.

This was actually called against my friend once in middle school. It was hilarious though. My friend set up for the charge just over the half court line. The ball handler clearly saw him and moved out of the way easily, making no contact. My friend went flying backwards anyways.

You seem to assume the NBA actually wants to fix this. I don't think they actually care. In fact, I think they LIKE anything that lets guys like LeBron, Durant, Harden, etc, get to the line more to inflate their scoring averages.

I think the whole anti-flopping rule and fines are just window dressing to appease the casual fan. The fans complain about flopping. So, the NBA responds by saying: "Yes, we agree. Flopping is cheating and disrespectful. We'll fine those fuckers to teach them that flopping is bad."

In the end, nothing changes. The NBA has been superstar driven since the 1980s and the superstars will still get the superstar calls, even if it takes an academy award worthy acting performance.

Oh I completely agree. They don't give a shit. I'm just saying that if you want to actually fix the problem, it has to hurt more than just a warning and then a fine.

Genius. If refs are fined (and I'm a ref) it would be a way better system than fining the players. Refs would be more diligent to get an "open look" (correct positioning where you can see in between the players).

At all levels faking a foul is a technical. I am all for calling Techs on the most egregious of flops. And no calling the weaker ones.

It wasn't a charge, but I was reffing a tournament on the coast and a player was coming up to guard a player at half court... so the offensive team had a player in front of the ball carrier, and the ball carrier shoved their own player into the defender and was trying to get the defender to pick up a cheap foul.

The ball went to the other team. I still laugh at that one.

Once I was reffing a spelling bee. I saw that one child faked pronunciation on the actual dog lease. I blew my guitar and he was disqualified.

That's not what you blew.

Late checking in to the thread, but I don't blame Harden as much as I blame the refs. Players will do anything within the rules (and sometimes, without) to gain an advantage. No one watching the game (or reading about you guys watching the game) can conclude anything other than that Harden gained an advantage with his flopping. (Just as he would if he could double-dribble, or pass to himself, or trip a player without being called). The referees are paid to ensure the rules of the game are followed and a team or player doesn't gain illegal advantage because they're flaunting those rules.

Yeah, give Harden a warning. Give the officials a suspension pending further training on the rules and supervised game action.

I can't blame the refs for that one particular call. It was too close. So after the game (Or even at half time) they need to review those calls and penalize the players who blatantly pretend to get hurt.

If they do it at half time, Kick them out of the game if it was really warranted. (Like in this case where he was little bitch holding his eye) I don't blame the player for trying it because right now there is no reason not to do it. So give them a reason not to do it.

The refs can't always see everything, so they react to the acting. Only way to stop the acting is to hurt the team. Suspend the player.

This is a good place to share I suppose. Watch the hairy asshole, i mean beard.
