Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

You know, I had a big hard on for Barnes, but Lillard will really be a very good PG. He has the ability to play as a top 10 PG in the league shortly

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Interesting that you bring up Martell. That's my NBA comparison for Barnes.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Post draft quarterbacks is a useless occupation. The draft is a gamble. We drafted for our needs (which I generally approve of) and got 2 people who most likely deserved to be drafted in the top 12.

We also drafted BPA, or close to it anyway, (which I always agree with) and got 2 people who fit needs.

It was a win/win

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

really? you're done with the franchise until the owner dies a cancer stricken death?

There are times in ones life (in real life, or on message boards/nerdom) that speak highly of your character, and speak poorly of your character as a human being. Both as a man, and as an adult.

You showed just how immature you are, and that you are not a classy person. I hope it's because you were drunk (although that doesn't make it much better) and you'll wake up this morning, re-read this thread and realize some of the childish and idiotic things you've said, and own up to it.

As someone who has had family members die from cancer (and yes, I know that sounds like an easy thing for me to say, so I can personalize it and create more sympathy/support), I wouldn't say anything about someone dying from cancer, in the manner you said. I understand you aren't saying you want him to die from cancer, but the tone of what you said is uncalled for.

But hey, this is real life man, sports are reals! Grr!

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

I don't think we will regret passing on any of these guys. Not that I think Lillard is a lock, but a whole bunch of teams passed on Drummond, who should have been a top 2 pick if he had the right motor/desire. He dropped by a bunch of teams because they didn't believe he could overcome that. Barnes is Martell all over again. Great athlete and shooter, but no handle and is one dimensional.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Yeah, I don't think the odds that Barnes will be an All-Star are really any better than Lillard.... in fact, they might be worse. This league loves explosive scoring guards.

I was waiting for someone to call this out, but did not have the time and patience to do so. Repped.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Lillard at this point is your starting PG, which means he will have the ball in his hands a lot. He has a good opportunity to be in the running for ROY if there is not a veteran PG added. Sure, it might be a meaningless award, but if you get accolades early I think the refs do notice. Just look at how many calls Roy got after winning ROY.

Cancer is definitely something I wouldn't wish on anyone. I watched my grandmother waste away and die from lung cancer, and I watched the same thing almost take my dad. It is a terrible thing that has touched almost everyone at some point in their lives. I would wager that you would be hard pressed to find someone that hasn't known someone that has or had cancer. In all likelihood I will probably die from cancer one day (hopefully many years from now). Definitely not a joking matter.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Barnes is a tremendously flawed player. He's never played up to his athleticism and his production never matched up to the initial hype of his prospectdom. I'd say that someone like Martell Webster is a pretty good comparison actually: a guy who looked like a great prospect on paper, but wasn't able to put it together on the actual court.

I think this is an excellent article about him, from Grantland:

I don't think Barnes is certain to fail at the NBA level, but I don't think he's any kind of elite prospect or a terrible pass-over.

But look at the fact that Barnes was a sophmore and Lillard was a senior. Lillard's numbers weren't so good his sophmore year. Especially considering he played at Weber St. Would have Barnes lived up to his skill and athletism if he had 4 years?

I think we all might be more reminded of another former ROY: Damon Stoudamire.

Ed O.

Except Damon was around 5'8 and Lillard is around 6'3 with the muscle that goes with that.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Lillard reminds me a lot of a more athletic Terry Porter.

I want to say he reminds me of Derrick Rose, but I'm going to withhold that opinion until I see him play against better competition. And we should all try to take any success in the summer league with a grain of salt. Let's not forget that Bayless absolutely destroyed summer league his rookie year.

Is the tantrum and personal attacks that Blaze has been throwing out in every thread not grounds for at least a suspension?

He has been PM'd. The threat is on the table. We'll see how he responds.

The problem was that Barnes didn't significantly improve over his two years at UNC, which is a big reason why his stock dropped. His age 18 and 19 years should be major improvement years, being so far from his expected peak, and they weren't. Could it suddenly snap together for him and he could improve a lot in the next two years? Sure, but you can only judge from the information you have now. Counting on improvement from a player who stagnated like that is really risky...we all waited for the "big improvement" years from Telfair and Webster, but the fact that they didn't improve materially over their first couple of years out of high school should have been red flags that there were major problems hindering their development curves, even though they were still "young."

Again, I wouldn't say that Barnes has no hope of being productive or even a star...I just think it's unlikely and, based on the draft-time information, not a bad pass-over.

Also, I don't think Lillard is an amazing prospect or anything. If he were a soph, I'd be much more excited about him...I'm worried that his upside isn't huge. Which gets at my main point: after the top four prospects or so, you have a small group of interesting prospects who have their own question marks. I struggle to see that any one of them, Barnes included, is a much better or much worse prospect than the others.

But you shouldn't, Rose with a better jump shot and defense is a great comparison. (remember people, we are talking about style here)And I know I will get blasted, but I'm ready for it, He reminds me of Bayless the way he attacks the rim and draws fouls

Other than height and shooting %s, of course

That aspect of his game excites me, but I don't know if it'll translate. He's not an earth bound short fry.

Is he a little Stevie Francis maybe?

Ooh, that's pretty good too. Maybe with better passing ability?

My god mm, what has gotten into you? You still on meds? I like this mm a lot more than the mm two months ago. Keep it up

I
But most of the posters here go out of there way to defend the mistakes of this organization, no matter how bad the picks are....

It's patently ridiculous to be upset about draft picks that have yet to even play a second of a game.

Comical, but ridiculous.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Olshey didn't pick any of them, and Babbitt was the only lottery pick.

(Just calling Babbitt a lottery pick makes me feel icky.. Hopefully I don't feel that way about Leonard in 2 years.)

Babbitt was the 16th pick. So don't feel icky!
