What's the new word to use? Dwarf? Elf? What's the difference? There's nothing derogatory about the word midget, any more than a replacement word.
LeBron James used the word retard, and some association criticized him, so to shut them up he apologized. The association didn't say what the new word of choice is. Stupid? Idiot? Moron? So nothing will change.
30 years ago, women's lib was after the word bitch. It's used a lot more now than then.
Offer up the replacement word when you seek to censor a word, or you can't win. You probably won't anyway, but that would give you a chance.

My wife of 12 years is asian. She claims she's 4'-11" (she's 4'-10). She does not appreciate being called a "midget". So to keep the peace I refrain from using such language unless it's absolutely necessary.

Like King Speed said, they really seem to prefer the term "little people." The term "midget" really does seem to embarrass/annoy/offend/hurt many of them. If you get your rocks off making others feel bad because you are to lazy to listen and make a tiny change to your behavior, that says a lot more about you than them.
People who get their panties in a bunch over the hardship of political correctness crack me up. You try living 20 or 30 years looking up to 10 year olds. Then you can decide if their name is appropriate.

I bet Zimbabweans would rather be called Spearchuckers. It's a nice, short phrase that I find completely unoffensive. I've never met somebody from Zimbabwe and have exerted not one iota of energy into investigating whether it's nice to call them that and if they do indeed like it, but I'm perfectly comfortable that it's probably so. If I were Zimbabwean, it's what I'd want to be called.
Also, I've never met you, but from now on I think your name is Kobe Thai. See, she's this amazingly athletic porn star, and even though her first name is Kobe you only have to watch her for like a minute before you think, "Damn, that tiny Thai girl with the ridiculously large fake tits can really take a hard one in the backside." Anyway, it's just a lot easier for me to remember "Kobe Thai" than lgprrak or whatever it is you use.
