I highly doubt "Hat Guy" is the only guy working out w/ Greg. If its even true. I've heard our asst. coaches and trainers all say in various interviews that they have been working out with Greg this offseason.

Didn't hat guy work with Gary P, Kemp, Vin Baker, and Nate? All pretty dam good players.

Steve Gordon is hat guy, and he is a former trainer of some sorts from the Sonics. it's not like he wouldn't know what the hell he is doing. This really isn't bad news at all

I think someone that has been around NBA players almost all year for the last 20 years would know some things. So ya I agree.

Who the fuck is Hat guy?

You gotta keep up, man! :)

"Hat Guy" is Steve Gordon, apparently Paul Allen's most trusted advisor. According to those in the know (or at the very least, those who claim to be in the know), "Hat Guy" is one of the most powerful people in the Blazers organization. Born & Buchanan are allegedly currently reporting to him. Supposedly he helped Paul regain his health after his first bout with chemo.

Hat Guy is the man.

ODenIsGodisback?

If this guy has really got a lot of power in the Blazer's organization, I thought maybe we should get to know more about him. Here is the best I could find: http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19950723&slug=2132925

He's called a "Gym-rat legend", apparently lost his first wife because he was too involved with his work, worked off and on with the Sonics, maybe helped jack Sikma develop a stepback move, did some rehab work with Paul Westphal, tried professional baseball, signed a letter of intent for basketball at DePaul but didn't play, was bullpen catcher for Mariners for seven years. A lot of personal stuff in the article, nothing really that i saw that would make one think he would be an expert at improving the game of professional basketball players, but maybe some guys just develop the knack by watching.

375 isn't fat for a pair of guys.

Was he the "FAMS" guy?

No, he was the "I guarantee Aldridge won't extend before the beginning of the season" guy from last summer. I think he was also the "KP hates power forwards" guy. :dunno:

So, if Bill Bayno' nickname was "the drunken cowboy", would people freak out? Yeah, probably. "WHAT? TEH DRUNKEN COWBOY IS WORKING OUT WITH TEH OEDN!? TYPICAL BLAZER!"

But since we know his name, we don't have mental midgets freaking out.

He's also the guy that welched on his bet with SlyPokerDog on the LA signing.

I also think he's the same poster as one currently on sabatical.

Go Blazers

ODenIsGodisback?

Actually he is back! Been posting over at O-live. Sent me a really nice email a few days ago apologizing for not making good on our bet and says he'll come to Portland this next season and he'll pay up then.

OIG and Mixum are not the same person. Mixum sent me some hate mail on here for some strange reason a month ago so he wouldn't have emailed a month later being nice.

Payton = not a big
Kemp = fat
Baker = fat
Nate = not a big

not a ringing endorsement

C.v. of those people in SEA.
Payton, Hall of Famer
Kemp, 8 seasons in SEA. PERs of 16,18,22,20,23,22,23,21. 6 All-star games, 3 All-NBA 2nd Teams. Drtg his last 5 years there avg. 101
Vin Baker, all-star in SEA, highest PER of his life, best Drtg of his life, then got injured.
I'll give that guy a shot.

I believe Hat guy working with Oden is clearly an indication that the Vulcans are unhappy about Oden's new haircut.

It's almost a blessing Oden was injured during picture-gate, just imagine the threads if it was common knowledge that Oden was working with the Trojan man.

Like I'm not gonna say this to be a flamer, but what do any of you see Oden amounting too? He already injury prone, commits 100 fouls a game, and you expect him to come back and soon be as good as Durant at least? Now I'm not saying any of you are saying that, but I would have lost all hope in Oden by now.

What a flop he's been, how can you say he's not? Any Dwight Howard trains with Ewing because he is actually a good player. I think someone here needs to explain to me the upside, if any to this guy. He's injured one of the most crucial parts of his body, numerous times. Plus his stats when healthy weren't that great.

Oden is a bust, sorry. I woulda said two years ago Bargnani was a bust, but at least he'll be putting up 20 PPG next year.

He already injury prone

Correct.

commits 100 fouls a game

Wrong, he averages 6 PF per 36 minutes, which would make him able to play an average MPG for a starter in the league.

and you expect him to come back and soon be as good as Durant at least?

Never on the offense, a lot better on the defense as he was last year before going down. During the 20 games he played last year he was, arguably, the best defensive player in the league.

Now I'm not saying any of you are saying that, but I would have lost all hope in Oden by now.

OK. Thanks for the inside look into your mind.

The upside to Oden is that when he is healthy and on the court his production is fantastic, before his injury last season he was starting to put together a great year, top 5 in REB%/BLOCK%/FG% Defensive rating and shooting ~80% from the FT line. The only thing holding him back is his body, even the fouling issues got better the more he played and got into game shape.

The whole "not trying to be a flamer" doesn't go to well when you say things like:

Oden is a bust
He commits 100 fouls a game
He's been a flop, how can you say he's not
His stats when healthy weren't that great

Nice work on not having a clue what you are talking about, and trying to start a flame.

Great reply. I think people jump to conclusion way too often. I'd be much more worried about Oden's mental aspect and whether he's going to never mentally be up to playing 100%. Health-wise, he's had two injuries to each knee and they should be about 100% by now. Not much different than Amare and not the 80's here with guys like Walton or Bowie where you didn't have the testing to rule this stuff out like we have today. So he's just getting 100% back to his mental state of playing on a knee that has failed him. Once beyond that, he's no different than Amare.

The #3 PER in the league for centers tells you he's valuable when on the floor, and Durant's PER was #2 for SFs, so it means they are both a couple of the most important players in the entire league to have on the floor playing minutes to equate to wins. In Oden's case it is on defense and how much he impacts the scoring from the other team, and Durant it is obviously for him scoring points.

So good post. Yes, he should have a lot expected of him as he is finally there at 100% health and just needs to get through the mental part. Yes, the fouls are there, but will go down not only with experience but with better defense (especially since they had Rudy playing out of position at the 3 last year during Batum's injury when Oden was healthy - which made a huge difference to Oden needing to foul to cover Rudy's guy torching him play after play) and lastly Oden should get more minutes and you'll see a huge NBA learning curve as he gets a good chunk of 65-70+ games under his belt with more minutes played per game. Getting a solid voice like Steve Gordon to sit with him and pump him up mentally is exactly what Oden needs right now.
